K.O.I.: Keepers Of Identity Exhibition by Segun Caezar

Experience the emotional arc of Segun Caezar’s evolution as an immigrant and artist in this exhibition of three distinct bodies of work. Navigating the tension between resisting external pressures and finding the courage to engage with a new world, the narrative opens with portraits framed by Mondrian-style grids, where Black subjects navigate the rigid confines of Western modernism. This tension deepens as figures turn their backs in a quiet refusal and retreat into autonomy. It resolves with the artist finding comfort in his culture through vibrant Ankara fabrics and the subjects are no longer closed off but instead make the complex decision of when to open up and when to protect their peace, wrapped in the resilience of their heritage.

Join the artist a the opening reception on Sunday, February 1, from 1 to 3 pm
