Kalyna Rakel combines the classic sounds of Billie Holiday and Ella Fitzgerald with the gritty soul of the delta blues. Often compared to Janis Joplin meets Amy Winehouse, she presents her moving original songs backed by some of Canada's top musicians. Starting her career busking on the streets for tips, she has now written and recorded 4 albums of all original music and is proud to announce the release of her fifth and most ambitious work to date, Before & After You. The album comes accompanied by a 24 page comic book that tells the stories of the songs through lyrics intertwined with stark black and white hand drawn images. Kalyna will be performing songs from her new album as well as music from her catalogue supported by Juno award winner Kevin Breit on guitar, saxophonist and clarinetist Jacob Gorzhaltsan, drummer Lowell Whitty from the Heavy Weights Brass Band, upright bassist George Chenery and violinist William Lamoureux.
