Indigenous Art Journey

Indigenous Art Journey Returns to Toronto with Free Community Event Celebrating Indigenous Artists

Toronto, ON — Shawish Market is proud to present the Indigenous Art Journey, a free, one-day community event celebrating the beauty, resilience, and diversity of Indigenous artistry for Indigenous History Month. Taking place on Sunday, June 14, 2026, from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM at the Toronto Reference Library, the event will bring together over 20 Indigenous artists for a day of art, culture, and connection.

Designed to uplift Indigenous creators and provide accessible cultural experiences for the public, Indigenous Art Journey will feature a curated art exhibit, a vendor marketplace, and interactive workshops led by Indigenous artists. Admission is free, with optional donations supporting Shawish Market’s mission to maintain a zero-fee platform for Indigenous vendors.

“Shawish Market was created to remove barriers for Indigenous artists, and Indigenous Art Journey brings that vision into a physical space where community can connect directly with creators and their stories,” says Amanda Bernard, Founder of Shawish Market. “We intentionally designed this event to be free and accessible, because experiencing Indigenous art and culture shouldn’t be limited by cost. Everyone is welcome to come, learn, and connect.”

Event Highlights:

1. Curated Indigenous Art Exhibit showcasing works from emerging and established artists

2. Vendor Marketplace featuring over 20 Indigenous-owned brands

3. Beading Workshops led by renowned artists Joy Rogers and Saga Kwandibenz

4. Free Coffee, Tea & Pastries available to attendees throughout the day

The Indigenous Art Journey reflects a growing movement toward ethical consumption and cultural appreciation, offering attendees an opportunity to engage directly with artists, learn traditional practices, and support authentic Indigenous businesses. Both Indigenous and non-Indigenous participants are welcome.

This event builds on Shawish Market’s broader mission to empower Indigenous entrepreneurs across Turtle Island by eliminating vendor fees and fostering sustainable economic growth within communities.
