Hanlan's Homecoming

Come show that Hanlan's is and always has been queer!

Due to erosion and other issues, Hanlan's has lost over 80% of its queer space since August 1971, when Canada's first Pride was held there. As queer people, our physical presence is how queer space survives. Our existence in public spaces is still a radical form of protest in many places in Canada and around the world.

In celebration of Hanlan's Point Beach being one of the world's oldest surviving queer spaces, we're inviting all queer folks to come down and take up space on SATURDAY, AUGUST 19TH FROM 1PM TO SUNSET. Haven't been in years? Never been before? Consider THIS your official invite to come back or come for the first time!

We'll be gathering at the North Beach ("Old Beach") where the queer space has been rapidly disappearing over the past two summers. Grab your favourite queers and come down and enjoy the beach. Some queer elders and activists from the first Pride will be there, along with some free and at-cost merch, and a beach cleanup!
