7 Torontonian artists will plunge you into the cinematic universe of Man Ray, Duchamp and Méliès through their touching and inspiring music.

Andrew Downing is a cellist, composer and leader. His group released an album, Silents, in April 2010 with Quinsin Nachoff, Jesse Zubot, Tania Gill and Mark Duggan. His former group Great Uncles of the Revolution, won two West Coast Music Awards, the Grand Prix de Jazz from the Montreal Jazz Festival and a Juno Award for his second recording Blow The House Down.

As a composer, his music is influenced by a wide variety of artists such as Igor Stravinsky, Duke Ellington, Olivier Messiaen, Bill Frisell and Charlie Haden. Andrew has also written pieces or arrangements for The Prince George Symphony, The Art of Time Ensemble, Toca Loca, The Urban Arts Brass Ensemble and Runcible Spoon.

Andrew currently teaches cello, composition and improvisation at the University of Toronto.
