Fat Fables: Resisting Fatphobia and Finding Fat Joy
Join artists, Jules Vodarek Hunter and Morgan Davis, co-creators of Fat Fables, for an evening of learning, performance and making connections.
Fat Fables is a performance and creation program for Fat Two-Spirit, Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans, Queer, Intersex, Asexual (2SLGBTQIA+) folks. The facilitators will share its positive impact in celebrating and uplifting different bodies, discuss the origins of fatphobia and how it shapes the current state of affairs on all bodies today.
A brief excerpt from the book Belly of the Beast: the Politics of Anti-fatness as Anti-blackness by Da'Shaun Harrison will be read to spark an open conversation. With size-inclusive seating and cozy welcoming vibes, the facilitators will lead a creative writing session, where attendees can write, share, and participate as much or as little as they want.
The goal of Fat Fables is to create community for fat queer and trans folks, to tell stories, and to dream of a fat future where we all thrive. Fat people deserve to be visible, to be seen and to be artists on stage.
The program aims to help attendees feel empowered, supported, and leave with a full heart.
