Evolution of French Flute Music: From Debussy to Bacri

Join flutist Caara Yeung and pianist Joonghun Cho on June 6th, 2025 (Friday) for an evening of French flute and piano music that explores a rich tradition from the late 19th century to the present.

The program opens with the atmospheric beauty of Debussy’s Syrinx and the lyrical Romanticism of Gaubert and Enesco, moves through the bold modernism of Poulenc, and culminates in two Canadian premieres: a radiant neoromantic sonata by rising composer Corentin Boissier, and a striking work by internationally acclaimed Nicolas Bacri. Bacri’s Spring Sonata bridges atonality and tonality, offering a modern reinterpretation of classical form with a renewed sense of harmonic clarity.

This recital offers an engaging exploration of French music, where tradition meets innovation and expressive depth. Whether you're a classical music enthusiast or simply curious, come discover the magic of French flute and piano music and immerse yourself in the richness of French culture!
