Evil persists, but I persist more - La Pupila's July Artist of the Month Exhibition at Loohoo
This July, Loohoo is proud to present Evil persists, but I persist more, a solo exhibition by La Pupila, a Colombian visual artist based in Tkaronto/Toronto.
Join us for the opening reception on Thursday July 9 from 6 to 8:30PM to meet the artist, see the work in person, and stop by the Artist Shrine for stickers, temp tattoos, coin purses, and more.
Working across painting, murals, tattooing, and printmaking, La Pupila's work explores emotions and memories through symbols, distorted forms, and evocative faces. Her visual language is poetic and tender, creating space for introspection and connection.
This collection was shaped by feelings of melancholy and anger, and also by hope. Inspired by the power and beauty of nature, the works evoke the feeling of being part of the mountain, the flames that pass through it, the water and the collective effort to calm the fire. And of finding, after every catastrophe, a wind of hope.
La Pupila's work is already woven into Toronto's public spaces. Some highlights include a mural celebrating women in skateboarding with the Sisters of Shred, a commission for YYZ Gallery exploring Venus as a utopia for women and non-binary people, and collaborative murals in Little Portugal and on Barton Street reflecting on community, care, and collective strength. You can see more of her work at lapupila.ca.
The exhibition runs July 2 to August 2 at Loohoo, 1380 Queen St W in Parkdale.
Free to attend. RSVP appreciated, follow the Eventbrite link
