This concert celebrates the recent, 2015 ECCG CD release, Higgs Ocean:
Music for Gamelan and String Quartet.
Along with performances of selections from this CD, ECCG looks to the future of this incredible sound combination, with the premiere of a new work by Linda Bouchard, also for gamelan and string quartet. This concert will also feature the premiere of a work for gamelan soloist and electronics, by Ronald Bruce Smith. The featured “back drop” for the concert will be the artwork of internationally acclaimed artist Daniel Gautier, whose art is represented in the design of the Higgs Ocean CD.
Based in Toronto, Evergreen Club Contemporary Gamelan (ECCG) is Canada’s first performing gamelan. It is among the few ensembles of its kind in the world dedicated to the commissioning and performance of contemporary music in the Euro-American tradition, the only exception being its Sundanese repertoire, which the groups musicians adapt and arrange to suit its unique hybrid approach.
Featured guest musicians: Accordes String Quartet; Stephen Sitarski, Carol Lynn Fujino, Douglas Perry and David Hetherington
Featured guest artist: Daniel Gautier
Artistic Director and soloist: Blair Mackay
