esu crossing the middle passage: orisha trilogy by d'bi.young anitafrika
Running February 17 to March 8, 2026, during Black Futures Month and closing on International Womyn’s Day (March 8), this intimate studio production launches Watah Theatre’s 2026 season at the newly established Watah Studio Theatre in Tkaronto.
esu crossing the middle passage is a ritual performance, installation, and act of collective witnessing. Set aboard a slave ship and embodied by Esu, the Orisha of crossroads and transformation, the work traces a womxn’s journey into the transatlantic enslavement system through dub poetry, movement, sound, and multimedia. First presented in 2016 to critical acclaim, the work returns with renewed urgency in our current moment.
This invitation is open to everyone. We welcome community members, elders, youth, artists, educators, organizers, and students to attend together, reflect together, and be in dialogue.
