Edith Abel-Dakovic: Underdogs Under Gods

April 15 - May 2, 2015,

Opening Wednesday April 15, 6-9pm

Edith Abel-Dakovics exhibition "Underdogs Under Gods" runs the gamut of colour theory, satire, linguistics, grief and triumph. Recent tribulations inform Abel-Dakovics unique body of work: never to shy away from a challenge, Abel-Dakovics sculptures examine the weight of a soul 21 grams and the translations of colour-based idioms with relentless optimism. Abel-Dakovic removes us from a place of comfort through confrontation with the one thing that should be most natural, our skin. But, as it turns out, the suggestion of skin is literally too close to home. Abel-Dakovic s tattooed and vibrantly pigmented synthetic skin pieces are equally alluring and disquieting. Intriguing artist that she is, Abel-Dakovic disarms our squeamishness with wit and wisdom balanced on an edge, and dares us to look inward.

Edith Abel-Dakovic has had numerous museum exhibitions across Canada, the United States, South America, and Europe. Her work is included in collections in Canada, United States, Japan, Brazil, Puerto Rico, Mexico, Germany, France, and Spain.
