CNE Solar Eclipse Viewing

Join the Dunlap Institute for Astronomy & Astrophysics on August 21 to view a partial solar eclipse at the Canadian National Exhibition. Get a free pair of eclipse glasses to let you view the eclipse safely and see the Sun through our solar telescopes. Meet astronomers from the Dunlap Institute and the University of Toronto to learn about the eclipse and to get all your burning astronomy questions answered. See live streams of the eclipse from regions of totality and compete for prizes!

We will be at the CNE from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The eclipse itself will begin at 1:10 p.m., will reach maximum coverage of the Sun at 2:32 p.m., and will end at 3:49 p.m.

We will be set up near the Princess Margaret Fountain, near the Better Living Centre.

This is a free event and no registration or ticket is required. However, attendees will need to pay admission to the CNE to access the event. On the day of this event, admission to the CNE is only $2 for children.

Please note that we are not selling eclipse glasses for this eclipse. They will be distributed for free at our event, but are also are available from many retailers online. We do not endorse any particular retailer. We recommend that, before purchasing glasses or other safe viewing equipment, you consult this page on eclipse safety.

The solar eclipse viewing event is organized by the Dunlap Institute for Astronomy & Astrophysics, University of Toronto, with the participation of the Department of Astronomy & Astrophysics and the Canadian Institute for Theoretical Astrophysics, U of T.
