In The Folds explores the essence of relationships by dissecting what it means to love deeply. Created in the wake of significant loss, multidisciplinary artist Christine McLean balances the work with her minimalistic approach. Everyday items have been repurposed as installations to speak to beauty, fragility, and vulnerability.

The process that follows loss pushes emotional and psychological boundaries, from the deepest sorrow to the most tender moments of appreciation. Each piece creates a tension between these extremes, challenging the notion that they can coexist. What was once unyielding becomes precious and fleeting. What once brought comfort becomes a source of pain. In our most difficult moments, we are forced to reach into the deepest parts of ourselves and transform into more complete beings. The physical transformations within the work lead to a space of psychological contemplation, where the viewer is asked to engage in personal reflection.

Christine McLean is a multi-disciplinary artist based in Toronto, Ontario. She holds degrees from OCAD University and Bishop's University. She is motivated by the increasing disconnect within relationships as a result of ever-present digital identities. Her work explores this through dissecting the unseen moments surrounding major and seemingly major life events. The emphasis of her concepts are strongly weighted in the process of making objects and the resulting interaction that takes place with the viewer.

McLean was the recipient of the Dr. Sydney Medine Scholarship, the Bishop's Foundation Second and Third Year Scholarship, the Bishop's University Prize of Fine Arts and the OCAD Photography Faculty and Friends Scholarship. She has curated several shows for Bishop’s and OCAD University graduating students and exhibited her own work throughout Canada.
