This August, Bau-Xi | Dufferin is excited to share "Meditation Robot and the Sailing Ships", the latest solo exhibition by Casey McGlynn. In this body of work, McGlynn continues to transform memory and imagination, where recurring figures become symbols for larger ideas.

The show will be on display from August 6-31, 2026, at our Dufferin location (1384 Dufferin St.), with the opening reception happening on Thursday, August 6, 5:30-7:30 PM, with the artist in attendance.

Artist statement:

"Meditation Robot and the Sailing ships is about the absurdity of technology doing everything for us, and how sailboats don’t move without the wind. The folly’s of humans and the beauty of nature.

In this show I’m exploring themes of excess, the natural world, conflict and beauty in the primal nature of the earth’s inhabitants" - Casey McGlynn

About Casey McGlynn:

McGlynn’s paintings are visual composites of autobiography and collective memory, at once literal and endlessly symbolic. Highly referential images - animals, people, popular media, and textual documents - narrate scenes from the artist’s life while also prompting the viewer’s imagination through allegory and archetype.

Working with a combination of techniques, McGlynn imbues this timeless visual repertoire with contemporary life: adventurous explorations of colour, humour, and satire are delivered with what Gary Michael Dault, writing for the Globe and Mail, called “a warm and somehow compassionate abandon.” Indeed, McGlynn’s compositions capture life’s chaos while also allowing his viewers the contemplative space to insert their own story.

McGlynn’s works can be found in many private and public collections in both Canada and the US. Most recently, his work was acquired for the HBC Global Art Collection in New York.
