Canstruction Toronto 2019

Canstruction® is an international annual design and build competition to raise awareness about the growing hunger gap. Teams of architects, engineers, designers and students design and build ‘Canstructures’, structures made entirely from canned foods within a 10’x10’x8’ space. Teams compete for the titles: Structural Ingenuity, Best Use of Labels, Best Meal, People’s Choice, Most Cans, and Best Original Design. A jury will judge the completed structures anonymously on May 14, 2019 and the winners will be announced at an evening reception held at the Design Exchange, with Master of Ceremonies Francis D’Souza, reporter and anchor at CityNews.

The structures will be on display until May 18 in the lobbies of the TD Centre at 66 Wellington Street West—TD Bank, TD North, TD South, and Ernst & Young towers. The reception will be held on the Trading Floor of DX.

After the competition and exhibition, the structures are decanstructed and all of the cans are donated to Daily Bread Food Bank, Toronto’s largest community food bank.
