Canadian Olympic Gold Medalist, Cheryl Pounder, Partners with Girl Guides of Canada to Shine a Light on Mental Health

Mental health is a growing concern for youth. Powered by Girl Guides of Canada (GGC), the Shine a Light on Mental Health event will light up the night with a thousand candles at Nathan Phillips Square to support mental health awareness. Special guest Cheryl Pounder, two-time Canadian Olympic Women’s Hockey Gold Medalist, will speak about breaking down mental health barriers.

The Shine a Light on Mental Health event launches GGC’s Mighty Minds, a new national program created in collaboration with experts at the Psychology Foundation of Canada and Kids Help Phone focused on empowering girls and young women to achieve positive mental health. Program participants will learn about mental health, address stigma that surrounds mental health issues, and develop skills to manage the ups and downs of daily life.
