BookThug presents the Toronto book launch for Alice in Plunderland by Steve McCaffery, illustrated by Clelia Scala

Join BookThug for the launch of Steve McCaffery's new book ALICE IN PLUNDERLAND available March 12 from BookThug. In this radical recreation of the iconic childrens classic ALICE'S ADVENTURES IN WONDERLAND by Lewis Carroll, legendary Canadian poet Steve McCaffery has infused Alice and her cohorts with characteristics associated with the word plundera word that for McCaffery conveys notions of theft, addiction, looting, and civil disorder. The wonder has turned to plunder as Wonderlands coterie of anthropomorphised eccentrics appear here transformed into a sketchy band of addicts and street hustlers, their familiar songs and hijinks mired in drugged-out absurdity.

Accompanying McCafferys plunderful reworking of the Alice story are Clelia Scalas translated collages: exquisitely desecrated variations on John Tenniels original illustrations from the 1865 edition of the Lewis Carroll original that pair perfectly with McCafferys cracked-out de-disneyfication of Alice and her adventures.

The launch will be held at videofagKensington Market's premier storefront cinema and performance laband will feature a reading by the author and and a screening of original illustrations by Clelia Scala.
