EUROPEAN GUESTS TO SHINE AT SINFONIA TORONTO CONCERT

Musical gems old and new will sparkle at Sinfonia Toronto’s Masterpiece Series concert on on Friday, December 8, at 8 pm in Glenn Gould Studio. The concert will feature TWO OUTSTANDING European virtuosi – Polish violinist Janusz Wawrowki and beloved Italian flutist Mario Carbotta making returning for his fourth appearance with Sinfonia Toronto. Maestro Nurhan Arman will conduct a program that includes the world premiere of Toronto composer Norbert Palej’s Violin Concerto. Mozart’s Flute Concerto in D Major and Beethoven’s op. 74 String Quartet in an orchestral version.

Violinist Janusz Wawrowski has performed at the Berliner Philharmonie, Tchaikovsky Conservatory in Moscow, Victoria and Albert Museum in London, Grosser Saal of Mozarteum in Salzburg, De Doelen Concertgebouw in Rotterdam, and in many other prestigious concert halls. He has appeared with Polish National Radio Symphony, Sinfonia Varsovia, Warsaw Philharmonic, the Polish Radio Symphony, Amadeus Chamber Orchestra, Südwestdeutsche Philharmonie, Simón Bolívar Symphony in Venezuela and many other orchestras in Poland, Czech Republic and Ukraine.

Flutist Mario Carbotta has played with many international orchestras like Mannheim Kammerorchester, Mainzer Kammerorchester, DKO Frankfurt, Sinfonia Toronto, Silesian Chamber Orchestra Katowice, Solisti Aquilani, I Virtuosi di Praga, Archi della Scala, Tonkünstler-Orchester Niederösterreich of Vienna, Karntner Sinfonieorchester of Klagenfurt, Thüringer Symphoniker, Südwestdeutsche Philharmonie Konstanz, Loh-Orchesters Sondershausen, the Symphonette Orchestra of Israel, the Orquestra do Algarve and Orquestra Classica de Madeira in Portugal, the Orchestra I Pomeriggi Musicali of Milano, Orchestra of the Provincia di Bari, Sanremo Philharmonic and many others.

Nurhan Arman has conducted throughout Europe, Asia, South America, Canada and the United States, returning regularly to many orchestras in Europe. Among the orchestras Maestro Arman has conducted are the Moscow Philharmonic, Deutsches Kammerorchester Frankfurt, Filarmonica Italiana, St. Petersburg State Hermitage Orchestra, Orchestre Regional d’Ile de France, Hungarian Symphony, Milano Classica and Belgrade Philharmonic.

Now in its 19th season, Sinfonia Toronto has toured in United States and twice in Europe, receiving glowing reviews. It has released four CD’s, including a JUNO Award winner, and performs in many Ontario cities. Its extensive repertoire includes all the major string orchestra works of the 18th through 21st centuries, and it has premiered many new works. Under the baton of Nurhan Arman the orchestra’s performances present outstanding international guest artists and prominent Canadian musicians.
