About the film
Invasion of the Body Snatchers
USA 1956 80min. PG
Directed by Don Siegel
Starring Kevin McCarthy, Dana Wynter, Larry Gates

Made at the height of Cold War paranoia and the golden age of the American optimism, Don Siegel’s Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1956) marries complacency with fatalism. Based on Jack Finney’s novel this iconic 1950s B-movie begins with mysterious pods appearing in a small California town and climaxes in a nightmarish reckoning of epic proportions. Siegel made a shlocky yet electrifying parable for the American ideology of the era, your neighbors might not really be your neighbors, your family may not really be your family, and you may not really be you.

Siegel’s film has remained a powerful political allegory in the decades since its release and the multiple remakes it has yielded speak to the enduring nature of the story. While this version of Invasion of the Body Snatchers may cause some unintentional laughs, it decimates the American Dream with eerie precision. - ALEXANDRA WEST

The screening will be introduced by The Faculty of Horror co-host Alexandra West, discussing Red Scare cinema and the film's subsequent remakes.
