Anansesem: Telling Stories and Storytelling African Maternal Pedagogies by Dr. Adwoa Onuora

You are invited to participate in the launch of this ground breaking book that vividly and accurately captures the composite stories of African Canadian, working-class women who teach and learn through the experience of mothering.

The use of stories to communicate joy, pain, triumph, resistance, encouragement and a vision of a better tomorrow has been a faithful companion to oppressed peoples. These African Canadian mothers have certainly embraced this time-honoured tradition to speak their special truths to the world.

Dr. Onuora has skilfully and humourously used the narratives of her co-participants to highlight how Through the Afro-indigenous art of Anancy storytelling, memoir, creative non-fiction and illustrations African descended women draw upon and are central to African childrens cultural, social and identity development.
