Show Description:

Bad Dog Theatre Company has partnered with the iconic Second City Toronto to

celebration Asian Heritage Month this May! They bring Asian comedian duo, Mahjong Mafia’s runaway comedy hit show All Of Our Parents Are Asian, which enjoyed multiple sold-out performances at the 2023 Toronto Fringe Festival, and they joining forces with the Tita Collective for an unforgettable night at 1 York Street.

Every show is uniquely special because we bring different guest comedians to each

performance! Our stage has hosted comedians who have shone at renowned festivals like Just for Laughs, and can be seen on platforms such Disney+, Apple TV, CBC, Netflix, and many more.

In the first half of the show, the Tita Collective will be performing musical sketch

comedy. Their performance revolves around the womxn in our lives like our aunts,

moms, daughters, and partners. We will get to see their struggles and heartaches, but also how they cope through comedy and songs. There will also be performances from some of the best Asian comedians in the city.

The resident improv troupe, Affirmative Reaction, comes on in the second half to

perform improv comedy, which will be fuelled by real life stories collected from the audience (submitted anonymously) about all the secrets we keep hidden away from our parents. Secrets submitted at previous shows include:

“I photoshopped my report card so my parents didn’t know I was getting bad grades”

"I don’t actually like my mother’s cooking”

“I lost my virginity on the roof of their house”

Come early, hungry, and thirsty because this show takes place at Second City. They

have a brand new restaurant called the Bentwood at the venue for delicious food. The show will sell out so get your tickets now!

Affirmative Reaction

Affirmative Reaction is a Toronto-based improv group that delights audiences with their unscripted performances. They perform together weekly at various venues around Canada and are known for their style of grounded absurdity. Comprised of actors, sketch comedians, stand-ups, and writers, this diverse group brings a range of skills and perspectives to the stage. Independently they have performed internationally in cities such as Edinburgh (SCT), Lisbon (PRT), Chicago (USA), Uppsala (SWE), Oslo (NOR), Sydney (AUS), Brisbane (AUS), Bangkok (THA), and Miami (USA).

Bad Dog Theatre Company is an artist-run charity that has produced Toronto’s best improvised comedy for 40 years. Starting as Theatresports Toronto in 1982, our stages have been graced by notable alumni such as Colin Mochrie (Whose Line Is It, Anyway), Kids in the Hall, Mike Myers, Keanu Reeves, Lauren Ash, Bruce Hunter (Puppets Who Kill), Pat McKenna (The Red Green Show), Gary Campbell (MadTV), Sandra Shamas (Playwright), Linda Kash (A Mighty Wind), and Tim Sims (The Red Green Show).

Our education center is currently located at 392 Spadina Avenue, and we continue to make audiences laugh with our Friday-night residency at Comedy Bar with our flagship show Theatresports.
