Afrika Djelly: It's all about da beat

This month Afrika Djelly is… “all about da beat.” Bring your voice, bring a drum, bring your vibes, shake your bum...

May is International Drum Month. Afrika Djelly gathers all “griots”, dancers, drummers and groovy people to answer the call of the talking drum.

Tama, dondo, djembe, apentoma, conga, tumba, raquinto, bongo, ngoma of all kinds welcome in a chorus of drum nations guaranteed to get you up and shaking your calabash. The ambience is cool under the wing of the Blakbird at Pero Lounge, 812 Bloor St W near Ossington and the rhythm knob will be turnt up to “sizzle” so bring your cool self down and let off steam.

Afika Djelly is TO's original & only monthly African music, live band, open mic, dance lesson & DJ party. Ever.
