African Experience Festival - AFEX 2016

The African Experience Festival (AFEX) will be showcasing the best of Africa in its 2nd annual festival from June 12 - 18, 2016 at venues across Toronto. The festival is organized by community partner organizations that have far reaching goals including preserving and maintaining African arts and heritage experiences through cultural festivals, interactive programming and educational events.

The festival culminates with a free family event at the prestigious Mel Lastman Square on June 18 with an outdoor showcase of music, dance, food, fashion, art class, storytelling, poetry, art and culture on display. Performances will include musicians, storytellers, dancers and artists. You can also enjoy authentic cuisine from the vendor stands and purchase a souvenir from the vendor stalls.

The 1 week festival also includes some FREE and ticketed events:

* June 12 – “Africa in the Movies” at Alliance Francaise – Spadina Theatre

screening compelling films from various parts of Africa

* June 13 – “This is Africa” – Art and Photo Exhibition at North York Civic

Centre

* June 14 – Chef’s Palate – Cooking Class with Chef Guy Dongue at his Toronto

Kitchen Studio

* June 15 – Africa Youth Connect – A discussion forum with African Young

Adults at the Barbara Frum Library to discuss “Understanding Diversity”

* June 16 – Visit to the Africentric Alternative School for a special presentation

* June 17 – AFEX Charity Soccer Tournament at The Hangar, Downsview Park

* June 18 – Taste of Africa – Outdoor Festival with music, dance, food, craft, art

and culture
