Addicted to Life

The Brickenden Dialogues presents MAiDHouse and Addicted to Life on Oct 3, 6:30pm at Hot Docs Cinema.

Addicted to Life is a compelling life-and-death documentary following paralympian Marieke Vervoort’s self-determined journey to meet the end of her life on her own terms through #MAiD — and, empowered by her choice, the passion for life she reignites in her final years.

Made possible through a gracious donation by Sarah and David MacDonald, the screening of this film will be accompanied by a panel discussion moderated by Kelly Grant, National Health Reporter for The Globe and Mail.

The evening will explore not just the importance of ‘how’, but “where”, as it relates to access to medical assistance in dying (MAiD), and the critical role of MAiDHouse in supporting both those who choose MAiD, and their friends and family. One third of those who have been approved to receive MAiD have no actual place to die. MAiDHouse aims to be the solution for these individuals.

This presentation will also be an opportunity to hear from panel members Angela Colterjohn and Jill Bodak, who will share their personal experiences of supporting loved ones through MAiD. Dr. Sandy Buchman, a MAiD provider and Co-Founder of MAiDHouse, and Tekla Hendrickson, Executive Director of MAiDHouse, will also be on the panel and will share insights from their work and explain MAiDHouse’s role in providing a serene and comfortable space and grief supports to those who access MAiD, and those they leave behind.
