A New Kind of Love - 60th Anniversary Screening!

Movie stars (and real-life married couple) Paul Newman and Joanne Woodward made sixteen movies together. This silly sex comedy is one of them—a starchy, retro rom-com that combines fashion, sexism, and mistaken identity. The couple play a cynical sports writer and uptight fast-fashion designer, respectively, who fall in hate-at-first sight. On assignment in Paris, Woodward gets an elaborate haute couture makeover. Even with a cast that includes Thelma Ritter, Eva Gabor, and Maurice Chevalier, an incredible wardrobe by costume designer Edith Head (winner of a record eight Academy Awards) and her then-assistant Bob Mackie, and acclaimed fashion photographer Hoyningen-Huene as colour consultant, A New Kind of Love is ridiculous from start to finish. Maybe that’s why Newman and Woodward clearly had a ball making this movie! Part of the Revue's popular Designing the Movies series and a movie that must be seen to be believed.
