#1000Strings is a one time only participatory performance of composer John Oswald's composition Spectre. Spectre was commissioned in 1990 for the Kronos Quartet by the Wexler Center, Canada Council for the Arts and Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts.

Performed around the world, the piece was scored for amplified string quartet with multiple overdubs of Oswald's recordings of the Kronos Quartet. In this sense, Spectre is written for a thousand-member string orchestra with all instruments played by the Kronos Quartet.

For #1000Strings, we will recreate Spectre with 1000 string players live in Yonge-Dundas Square.

This is a not-to-be-missed experience whether you are a string player who wants to be part of it or an audience member looking for a sonically spellbinding experience.
