Toronto delivery service TasteAway shuts down

After three years of business, TasteAway, a food delivery service known for offering substantial discounts, has gone offline as of Monday, October 5.

We recently wrote about how a number of Toronto restaurant owners alleged they had never received payments after their customers ordered food via TasteAway. Others claimed that when they were compensated, this money came late.

Toronto is filled with an array of online-based delivery services. Perhaps the market has become too saturated to sustain all of them.

Here's TasteAway's full statement from Monday, October 5.

"After three years of our best effort, TasteAway has been forced to cease operations due to insolvency, effective immediately.

Despite initial growth, loyal customers and a talented team we were not able to secure the funding or acquisition necessary to keep the company viable in a fiercely competitive market.

Our offices have been shut down and staff let go. TasteAway is closed for business permanently.

Thank you to all our supporters throughout the years."
