Yonge Street Oasis

Feeling over-heated, nutrient-deprived, slightly hungover, or just plain thirsty? Slip away to the yummy Yonge Street oasis that is Papaya Hut (also known as Papaya Island). They claim to offer "the best smoothies on the planet," and while I'm simply not worldly enough to back that one up, I might be willing to suggest that they are the best smoothies in the city.

The Health Nut is my favourite shake - and it also aptly describes the owner, who would probably do cartwheels for you if it meant making you a customer. Although his, shall we call it, enthusiasm, nearly chased me out of the door on my first visit, I was lured by a generous free sample which immediately started me on an addiction to his smoothies. ((Fortunately, if you buy 7, you get one free, which makes the habit a little more affordable.)

Yes, this shifty looking hole-in-the-wall is, in fact, a tropical haven that will leave you in wonder. Who knew so much goodness could be crammed into a styrofoam cup?
