Vortex Records

Posted by Staff / Posted on October 11, 2010

20101011-VortexRecords.jpgVortex Records is an institution among Toronto record shops. Their uptown store is often the short-term home for discs shed by downsizing collectors, with the result that chestnuts end up alongside true obscurities in the floor-level bins.

Really knowledgeable and helpful staff, one of my favourite stores in the city.

I'm a regular there. Just wanted to point out that they've changed their hours since this photo was taken, just in case someone reads them off that sign. Mon - Wed they now close at 8pm.

Have loved this store for years. Maybe with CD sales slumping they will TAKE THE VINYL RECORDS OFF THE FLOOR SO THAT MY BACK CAN GET A BREAK

I love this place. Does anyone remember their other location at Dundas/Church? I was sad when it closed but I'm glad their other location is still going strong.

Have been frequenting Berts various locations for many many years. Good to finally see vinyl coming full circle. Always an esoteric collection here, I can spend hours digging, cds and vinyl. Lots of good sales and reasonable pricing for what you get. Album crates on the floor are hard for me but otherwise two thmbs up!

Hands down the best used CD and DVD Shop in the whole of Toronto. First, the staff are friendly, polite and treat the customer with respect. While the store itself is cramped, it is a joy to search for used and collecters items. Most importantly, Vortex pays top dollar for your items. I sold some items there the other day and they gave me 88.00. Warning: do not buy or sell at Deja Vu Discs in Scarbourgh, these guys are a bunch of rip off artists. They claim on their website that they pay up to 6 bucks or more but will give you up to 2 bucks per item. Vortex gives you a very good price on your items and they are fair and know how to give you top dollar.

Absolutely the BEST record store in Toronto. The ONLY place that you will find rare records for a reasonable price. Turnover here is quick! So if you don't find something one day you're bound to the next. Persistence pays off. A real gem for vinyl hounds.

The greatest record and DVD shop in Toronto but please be aware that Vortex is no longer buying used DVDS as of 5 weeks ago because they are not selling due to the fact that the public is downloading and streaming films now. Still, a great place to shop with staff that are friendly and know their products.
