The Duke

The Duke TorontoThe Duke in Leslieville has a bit of a sordid past. A neighbourhood landmark well before the area gentrified, the large pub (with live music on weekends) is known to be a bit rough around the edges as witness by the deadly shooting here in 2008.

Had a great time last Saturday afternoon at the Duke. Kareoke with Sweet Daddy Siki was great!! I was even tempted to do Karoeke.
My friends told me about the food, well I tell you, you leave with a full belly of good food.

I pass the Duke everyday going to work and I am glad I finally stopped in. You made yourself another patron. I'll be back!!

Is Sweet Daddy still there on Saturday afternoons, and what about karoeke - was thinking of heading there this Saturday with a couple of friends for a bit of music and laughs.

The Duke deserves a re-visit. There is a real lack of proper dive bars, with real people in them in this snotty town. Went there last night, the Zepology band was genuine fubar, and quite good, there were lots of entertaining rowdy blue collar folks just grooving to their own tune. An interesting mix of people too.

Mind to cockroaches, but if you are looking for somewhere in this town where you can just go and be yourself, this is it. It reminds me of many small town or western local watering holes.

Bonus: pool tables and big buck hunter.
Tips: leave before it gets too rowdy.

It was better before. Head bouncer is a idiot. Power trips to much. Owner needs to get rid of him.

I won't be back either. Bouncer has no people skills. Rude as hell. Owner doesn't even seem to care too. What a same. Really good bar years ago.

I came by yesterday afternoon with my sister and landed in the middle of a great trio band session. Free!!!! Here every Sunday afternoon from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Amazing Canadian talent "The Alistair Christl Trio" that's around the town in a number of bars on Queen Street. Check it out $5.00 pints and beautiful large outdoor patio plenty of room for everyone! Spoke to a guy who has been following them for many years. A really neat mix of Country and Rockabilly, a lot of originals that gets your juices following! See you there!
