Sushi on BloorSushi on Bloor continues to be one of the most popular "cheap sushi" joint in the city. Expect line-ups to get in on weekends at this busy, two-floor spot on Bloor.

The worst service. Servers are rude and unfriendly. Very long wait time. And on top of all this, you don't get your food promptly. Our sashimi (raw fish) order was sitting on their food counter for over 20 mins before I said something about it. Instead of correcting their mistake, and serve us fresh fish, the manager told her staff not to serve us. I'd rather not be served than get food poisoning.

Sushi On Bloor is a great place to dine - terrific food, presentation and service. You can't blame a successful restauraunt for wait times if you decide to go at peek dinner hours can you? (try between 2 and 6 pm!). protogenes comment is irresponsible I'd eat there every day if i could

Whats wrong with this place?
The food is always good, served up fast..tonnes of sushi for a good price!

I talked to a guy..his uncle owns the joint...He said business is good..VERY VERY good.'

Secondly, i have never had a spicy tuna handroll with that much GOOD FRESH tuna in it...

Great place i recomend it..

New generation is good too!

you guys dont know what good sushi tastes like until you have sushi in Vancouver.
I haven't had any sushi in Toronto that comes even close to Vancouver's. oh how I miss that city :(

Sushi on Bloor is the only sushi restaurant I visit! Fish is super fresh, prices are best in town, portions are HUGE. Great value. I agree the staff isn't the friendliest, but just do takeout and you hardly have to deal with them. There's even a 20% discount on takeout, which makes it the cheapest (and best!) in town.

Some sushi restos in Tokyo are pretty bad too. You just have to pick the right ones.

There's a very good reason why there's long line ups at this place.
Great cheap food.

As for SOB haters, i'd rather have lots "cheap" sushi from a place that ALWAYS busy, than have sushi from a "fancy (snobby)" place that will not have the same turnover in their fish and ingredients as SOB.

This place just closed down for a couple of weeks because of a cleanliness problem.
I loved this place since i was young kid and always used to go with my parents but recently they have cut back on there quality of raw fish.

My boyfriend and I ate here on Sunday afternoon and it was awesome... The service was awesome- everyone was friendly (contrary to other posts) and the food was AMAZING- very fresh and tasty sushi.. the next time I get a sushi craving, I'll be coming back! The salmon dragon roll was heaven!!!!

Though big sushi down the street to the east is better for rolls, the Seafood Salad here is probably the best for your buck - usually you always end up lacking the veggies when you go out for sushi but this is a huge and variant salad with greens, seaweed, tomatoes, etc and on top of it is a bunch of different sashimi pieces - this and a miso soup easily fills me to the brim and costs under $10 (The salad is only $6) - I had been coming here for years before I ever got it so I'm spreading the word!

Went to this place last night to see what all the hype was. Waited about 10 minutes at 6:45pm for a table for 2. Got in quicker than we thought. Food was average, price was great and good service too. Although I found the sushi wasn't all that well made, it seemed to be fresh and good cuts of fish. I'm not sure what all the hype is about. Living further downtown I find much better 'cheap' sushi at Ichiban and Sushi Inn at Yorkville. Overall the experience was pleasant.

Oh the free mango, green tea, red bean ice cream in the end was a nice treat.

I have tried other "cheap sushi" places but always come back to SOB. It can't be beat for the low prices and the fish portion sizes.

It seems like over the years their servers have gotten friendlier so it's not too bad. You just can't expect super friendly service when you're eating at such a cheap place that's also so busy.

I think #1 should be tako sushi, which isnt located downtown but in north york, beautiful decor, friendly staff, and delicous & fresh sushi. Amazing prices and they have nice bento box
combos.

I ordered take out from this place, a standard Makimono combo. I got home, opened it up, and the stench was like a punch in the face. I braved forth, took one bite, then threw it all in the garbage. What a fucking waste of money.

SOB has a conditional health pass. meaning when their restaurant isn't dirty enough to shut down, but theres still bugs and shit running around. they leave their sashimi out for long periods of time and i've seen many many people get food poisoning from there.

I've always had a great experience with SOB. We get delivery from them a few times a month and we've been a loyal customer for almost 5 years now. The sashimi is fresh and tasty. The tempura appetizer is delicious and fresh and you get lots for a low price. For such a inexpensive place, I'm surprised about the great quality and large portions. Definitely two thumbs up for quality and price!

Tokyo or Vancouver? Some Japanese tourists in Vancouver have told me that Vancouver's sushi is better than Tokyo. I've had it in Vancouver many times at lunch- super fresh, super cheap, large servings and lots of variety all over the city!

Scatterbrain, how could you move from Vancouver to Toronto? Man that's a bad choice- from great to low class in one journey! And I am not talking only the sushi...
