The food is terrible.
Probably the worst Japanese experience I have had in Toronto. The bentos were terrible, full of "stir-fried" veggies which consisted of 80% onions. The teryaki was overcooked, the rice too mushy. The only saving grace was the miso soup. And its not cheap! We forked out over $50 for our meal (two bentos and a couple beers).
It's not the cheapest sushi you'll find in town, e.g. it's on the higher end of average ($15-$17 for a large platter of 18 rolls), but the service is fast and friendly, the decor is tasteful and the portion sizes are generous. All guests receive several small appetizers on the house with their meals.
I'm vegetarian and Sushi Bar has by far the best vegetarian sushi selection that I have come across in Toronto. The Mango Crunch and Spicy Veggie Dynamite rolls are amazing! The rest of the menu is quite extensive as well.
I think it's definitely worth another shot. :)
Sushi Bar is awesome. An ever-expanding list of creative rolls, one of the freshest and most balanced wakame salads in the city, and one of my favorite places to get tempura.
I've been with big groups - the service is prompt, attentive, and friendly. Both times (once with 7-8 of us, and another with more like 15) and both times the kitchen sent over lots of little free appetizers nibblers to whet our appetite, and then complimented our orders with two more custom rolls for the table to share. Seriously, if you have a big group that wants to get together for sushi - try this place out! They've got lots of room and they love groups.
Picking up take-out, and going there in small groups rates much the same attention. Tea while you wait for your take-out, lots of ginger and wasabi in your containers, all served up with a friendly, welcoming attitude.
