Qi Sushi

Qi SushiQi Sushi is a cozy sushi restaurant that has recently opened on the southern edge of Cabbagetown on Gerrard east of Parliament. On the menu? Reasonably priced nigiri, sashimi and maki.

Passed by here many times on the streetcar, today finally decided to go inside. Glad we did!! The portions were very generous, and the rolls did not have all of the cheap mayo filling. The food was very fresh, and very delicious. We got the chicken teriyaki bento box (was very big!!), 4 pieces of sushi, a dragon roll, and a spicy tuna roll. The service was great, and the owners were very friendly! Will definitely go back and recommend to friends. Glad to have them in their neighborhood!

There aren't a lot of decent sushi places in the area, so this is a welcome addition to the neighborhood. It's a mom and pop shop essentially, and I find it is good value for good sushi. Their combos are great (can usually get lunch for $10 and dinner portions are big for about $12-15). I especially enjoy their house sushi combos. The staff are also super friendly. I get my lunch here often!

Went for lunch today. Had a great, tasty, fresh meal. As an amature body builder I'm always worried about getting enough to eat. No problem here. Generous, inexpensive portions. I've lived in Cabbage town for a couple of years and the sushi options are limited. Very happy to have this new addition to the area!

My wife and I love this place. It's not only the closest sushi place to where we live, but one of the best deals I've found for bento boxes in Toronto: $10! Generous portions and the staff are really nice. We will be going back again and again!

I used to be a faithful costumer to this restaurant since summer 2012. I used to recommend their sushi to my friends and even my teachers. It has gotten to the point that even the boss lady recognized me. Qi Sushi offers a stamping promotion where if one buys 9 of their bento or special rolls, one can get the tenth one free with their coupon. Recently, I went there to celebrate my friend's birthday and decided it was an opportunity to use the coupon. Before the coupon, my bill came up to around $25 but after, it was about $14. The boss lady began to behave strangely as she went to the register and did a through calculation of how much my bill was before and after and emphasizing that I got a roll for free. I was pretty satisfied with their service so I decided to leave about $1.50 tip. Keep in mind that I'm a student, so I left about 10% tip. As I left the tip on the tray and began to pack up, the boss lady came to my table, picked up the tray and rudely dumped the tip back onto the table while muttering under her breath about how "you ate one roll free and you ONLY leave $1.44". This might not seem like much but I was very insulted.

At the very least you leave a tip on what was your original bill not on the discounted price. What you did was just disrespectful to the establishment and on top of that a tip that is a minimum of 15%, not 10%. It's about basic manners and thoughtfulness to a business you built a rapport with and who enjoyed having you as a customer. Doesn't matter if you're a student on a budget.

10% of $25 is $2.50. You tipped her 5%. I understand why she was frustrated. You still tip on the full bill, not on what is left over after you have a gift certificate.

As a server myself, student or not (i'm also a student) you should be tipping 15%, Especially when you say it has been good service. I never tip under 20%, unless it is shitty service.

So, yes, she shouldn't have made that remark, but you kind of deserve it if you have been undertipping and getting free food from their establishment.

Good sushi, poor customer service.
Food is slow to arrive (30 minutes) and rude owner.
