Pho Mi Asia

Posted by Staff / Listed on May 21, 2011 / review policy

Pho Mi AsiaPho Mi Asia is a casual eatery consistently buzzing with both local Vietnamese patrons and overspill from nearby Yorkdale mall. Bowls of pho come with enough meat to host a bbq, but the star of the show here is the incendiary bun bo hu, served with fistfuls of fresh veggies, tender bits of pork knuckle and the earthy, tangy broth of shrimp paste, chili and lemongrass. Fuel up for that shopping spree in affordable style.

The "vegetable noodle soup" also known as Pho Rau cai isn't actually Vegetarian. We asked the server and she said it is still a beef based.

The food portions shrunk! not like before with bigger portions this time the large soup was 3/4 water and 1/4 noodles and beef the grilled chicken was just one small thin strip. And the service is the worst!!! I just can't help it but ever since today this will be my most disrespected trip to a restaurant! at first the food came quite fast but when you start asking for something like a spoon or more tea they think they have an entire day to get it and I have to say it wasn't that busy. However what made it the worst experience is as soon as I pay the bill for my colleagues which was around 55$ the debit terminal asks you to if you "WANT" to give a tip and so I left $1 tip for the mediocre service but as soon as I turn around the cashier checking the transaction record yells that I only gave $1 which surprised me (I mean at least I gave a tip) and announced it to the store that as if I stole something! and she yells at me without asking properly to give a supposed mandatory 10% tip so in this case $5.5 and the funny thing is that tips are just small donations if a customer feels that the service was beyond expectations but in this situation did I feel the best service? NO! and where does it say 10% tips are compulsory to pay?! then it feels like me and my colleagues got hounded by the entire staff for their 10% extra pocket money not a tip! I sincerely believe that they get paid wages and get tip portions so why the need for an over the counter tip and not a tip that shows on the "OFFICIAL" transaction?! As far as we were concerned we paid our bill and so we just shoved a five dollar bill and left with quite an impression about this place,we will never go back here again! after all this shows that they don't want our business even after we took the time to go there very frustrating!
