First, the store itself is overrated. My parents visit me once in a while here in Toronto and we go here, prolly been here for like ~5 times already. However, the Filipino feeling is really here. Talk here and there and if you really miss the the "Filipino Air" go here, but food-wise, you can save someplace else.

I think it's the concept of being the only place in TO but yeah, you really need to have at least a hundred buck to feed four people (the number of people in my fam). What I liked best was the Kare-kare sans the alamang. However, most of the food they serve have shrimp on it, so people allergic to it really have limited selection. The "Famed Chicken" is not even that good and most of the food are much too oily.

Service was okay, not that stellar but passable. If you don't call ahead of time, be ready to wait for at least 15 minutes so if you're really hungry, this is not the best place to go to.

Over all, it's too overrated and overpriced. And too noisy. Well since we all are Filipinos, that inevitable.

Food is ok but service is really bad. 99% of their staff are rude. Far from being friendly at all.. I took my non Filipino friends one time and it was a huge disappointment from the service we got and the food. We didn't get it and still don't get why we got treated that way when all we did was being polite and nice to them. In the end, they even pushed us to leave!!! Like WTH!
After all that, I decided to give them another chance. I brought my husband who is European so he can try the famous halo halo. We got seated after a 15 min wait because everyone was busy chatting in the back. We got menu soon after but 45 minutes later, nobody even bothered to take our order. We ended up leaving and walking away and none of the staff even bothered to say anything even the manager on duty! Mind you, the place wasn't busy at all. It was terrible and a shame. I was so proud of this place but I dont think its worth anything. They truly have to improve their service else they will eventually lose all their customers.

Someone should remind these culturally dysfunctional servers that they must serve all customers and leave their racism behind. Word of mouth and tweet can close a business that hires servers as stupid as these. Last time this happened to us at another place we left a 2% tip in pennies covered in gravy on the tablecloth.

@ Kodoschi..i guess you are trying to over react here. And based on your comments, seems like you are the racist not these people. Look at the way u talk. If you are not satisfied with the service, that's fine but u don't need to call these people dysfunctional nor stupid. Coz just by the way u talk, for sure u are describing yourself. I don't know who u are. If u are educated then please use it, if not then i guess u gotta go back to school and learn something about GMRC. Ooops just in case u don't know the meaning of that ill do it for ya. It's Good Manners and Right Conduct. Have a good day.

Food was good but the service was was slow, had an inattentive waiter and rude when called upon to add more to our order...I've complained to management and even the franchise owner..but they are just as family and found that the wait staff tend to attend to the non-Filipino aka white folks than the actual customers who they should be attending to...

The food here sucks and is overpriced. Our whole family went there and ordered the $200 something combo. Not only did the food take forever to arrive but it was also disgusting. The meat was so tough and the chicken was not crispy. If I had gone to Congee Queen and spent the same amount of money I know I would not have been disappointed - I never am when I go there. Look elsewhere for even a marginally decent version of Filipino food.

On a side note, Lamesa is awesome. Try the original versions before you go there though as they put a modern, chef-y twist on traditional food AWESOME!

Hmm.. I find a lot of these comments to be very misleading. I visit this restaurant regularly and I find the staff to be very accommodating. This restaurant does however get very busy on weekends - especially in the summer but I found that the hostess was very sympathetic and apologetic towards how long the wait can be. I found the staff to be very upbeat and always on the move - which I admire for how long they must work everyday. I even had the pleasure to meet chickie boy himself and was allowed to take many pictures. As for the food I found it to be very delicious, very oily yet truly something to savor, it's a little pricey but I think it's worth it. I'm not a huge fan of all the meat especially in the Pancit but you may always request there to be no meat added - which I find very comforting.

All in all I love this restaurant, it has a few quirks... but which restaurant doesn't?

I recently paid a visit this past Sunday with a group 16 (9 kids) and I suppose you can't please all from what I read. I've only heard of Max's from friends and family and admit to be curious and excited to visit.

On a whole service was excellent. They were attentive and serviced our table very well. And the food was better than I expected for sure. Everything was fresh, presented well and was yummy. Without judging by Pinoy standard (i.e. with a slight edge of prejudice) it was good food and I would definitely come back. We tried a good array of dishes including deserts and all was very good. I can't comment authenticity as I've never been back but I will definitely come back for more. And I'm certain my parents would enjoy it too.

For the foodies while I love Lamesa, Max's exceeded all my food expectations. Definite return. Not innovative like Lamesa. But good eats for sure.

I’m so glad that we got to come here to enjoy and try out the Filipino food. Max’s Restaurant is a franchise that has locations all around the world. I would love to be able to try out their other locations someday.

sorry but the prices were way too much, for two orders to go, I paid $35.00. I ordered pancit canton and it taste like they use instant noodles and their kare-kare was like a soup with 3 pcs or string beans, 1 slice of overcooked eggplant and 2 leaves of chinese pechay and did not even give you the shrimp paste to go with the kare-kare, sorry try not to go back.... NOT VERY HAPPY.
