Hoops Sports Bar

Posted by Staff / Listed on October 5, 2010 / review policy

Hoops Sports Bar TorontoHoops Sports Bar has four locations in the Toronto area. They have more than enough screens to watch the big game and simply don't have a bad place to view the action. Hell, they even has TVs in the floor to make sure you don't miss a shot while walking to the bathroom or cleaning the puke off your shoe. Unfortunately, that's about all it has going for it as its food is beyond atrocious and its beer overpriced.

Calling the food at Hoops "beyond atrocious" is exaggerating. I would wonder how many times the writer of this review has actually sampled the food (even if it's a few times I think there is a bit of an elitist complex going on with this review). I live in the condo building that houses this Hoops and it is certainly not as bad as Blog TO would have you believe.

Give it a try for yourself. Particularly their wings are actually pretty awesome. I'm a frequent attender of their cheap wings nights on Tuesdays and Thursdays ($4.99 for a pound of wings with fries and veggies and ranch dip) pretty great I must say. I think the writer of this review would like sports bars to be gourmet french restaurants, in reality most of the time people just want beer and wings or a burger. I tried the "suicide" wings at Real Sports Bar down the street and found them more sweet than spicy (not good!).

Anyway like I said, give this place a try. My only complaint would be how long the food takes to come out of the kitchen. I also would avoid ordering the pasta dishes but come on Blog TO get off your high horse!

Hey Duff,

Gotta say your food is great overall and love the suicide wings. If I can make it in tomorrow I will! Would be happy with 2 lbs!

The fact that someone from management has already answered to my post shows that they obviously care.

Some other good options for you guys and gals out there who want some good food: The Hoops Burgers, Buffalo chicken wraps (one of my faves), nachos. Oh and the servers are really nice and they have pool tables at the back of the restaurant.

Plus they have a good selection of beer and drinks that really isn't crazy priced. We're in downtown Toronto people, beer won't be the same price as your small university town.

People are going to think that I'm a promoter or something but I'm just a frequent customer that really thought it was crazy unfair of BlogTO to say such terrible things about Hoops and who also loves the fact that I have a sports bar in my condo!

Thanks for taking the time to read my review Duff. I wonder if the writer of the article is reading any of this. Hopefully other people will chime in. I know there are a lot of people in my condo who like the place and would defend it too.

Sorry, but the food at Hoops is as atrocious as the reviewer states it is. The service however is beyond atrocious. I waited about 15-20 minutes each time for drinks.

RE: the food
I am generally pretty picky about pub food, but I was actually quite impressed with my meal at Hoops (Yonge & College location). I had a really tasty grilled veggie sandwich, with a greek salad (nice mixed greens - not iceberg lettuce, not overloaded with dressing). It was delicious! Granted, this was only my first visit to Hoops, but I will definitely go back.

The food isn't bad at all at Hoops. I worked as a manager at the owners italian restaurant in Richmond Hill for years and I know how much effort, thought and care is put into menu planning and food selection. Obiviously some people are just too picky for their own good. Watch the game and shut up.

The Hoops Management located at Yonge and College does not care about new customers and is very ignoraant about their policies. There are only 2 goofd waitreses there, the reat are slow aqnd the food is mediocre at best.

The service and the food here is great. I will never go back there again though because the kitchen staff is disgusting. The cook came out and yelled at the servers to the point where they were pretty much crying on the floor. He was calling them bitches and threatening them. He should be fired, I have been there about 3 times and every time I swear it will be my last because of the disgusting excuse of a man who treats the girls shit.

Get new staff.

for someone in the business you sure don't know about customer service. Where is it that you work? I'll be sure not to stop by if that is your policy. As a cook Everyone should be heard cause only 1 of 75 people usually post here, that means there are potentially 75 more people with the same view as the people that offer their comments. I also see that it is passed tense is that place operational anymore? I've not personally been to the place but having been a manager you should know better then to make comments such as these.

I agree, the service was extremely atrocious. Even after tipping the waitress 15% for her ridiculous service, she had the nerve to ask "how service was" for which I tried to be polite and replied 'service was good'. In turn, she replied 'you can always tell how service was by the tip' in a sarcastic tone. The location on young street, just across the shoppers at college is absolutely gross.

I ate at Hoops on Bremner for the first time about two months ago. Poor service, poor food, and even poorer beer. It tasted and smelt aweful, like it was off. I live very close by to Hoops and would love for it to be my local hangout but after that bad experience i'm hesitant to take friends there ever again.
