Harlem
It is evident that a lot of love has been poured into creating this unique spot that serves soul food of both literal and figurative varieties. Inspired by the Harlem Renaissance, Harlem strives to be not merely a restaurant, but a hub of local black culture. Artwork by local artists, including co-owner Carl Cassell, is on display, and live music (jazz, blues, funk, soul) is a regular feature.

Hope all is well when these few lines reach your side.
Not sure if you remember me (us) but we attended your place on September 19th...We were sitting at the end, close to the stairs and I was wearing a green and black dress and drinking a Sour apple Martini.
You chatted with us briefly - asked if it was my birthday in which I replied no...that "my man is just good to me like that" and you so kindly made us your 'specialty' drink which we enjoyed thoroughly.
I just wanted to take this time to say a SPECIAL thanks for your hospitality and the overall experience that we encountered that evening. In short, it was amazing. We were totally impressed by the ambiance, the food, the customer service (your staff) and the overall vibes of your place...oh, and the music...crazy! love me my Ol skool....
Steve and I couldn't and haven't stopped talking about your establishment; and since then we have decided to make HARLEM our 'joint'. It's been awhile that I have experienced a place so quaint and unique as yours and again....the food....spectacular!
Continued Blessings and Success to you - your crew and the establishment that you operate.
You will definately be seeing us again in the very close future.
All the Best - have a wonderful day!
Peace and Guidance, Joyce
All in all, it was a let-down. Especially since I work in the area and had hoped for a new lunch spot.
When we arrived at 1:00 pm there were only two staff at the restaurant: one server and one cook. At first there were only 2 other tables but pretty soon the place filled up and the waitress had way too much to do. We didn't get our food for at least an hour. Most of the dishes did not measure up to the menu; for instance, our fried chicken with waffle left off the 2 promised sauces and only came with a v small amount of chix. Harlem sandwich was served on toast and not cornbread. Pretty much every plate was missing something. Loaf of cornbread ordered as appetizer was good, though.
Service: the way she treated us and the other big group was COMPLETELY different. After she found out were just getting the main dish and not the appetizers her expression changed and started giving us this attitude. After that she talked really fast when explaining the menu and made us feel uncomfortable. She was only nice when we were paying. Oh by the way they don't carry change there so I had to pay with credit. Ya.
NOT RECOMMENDED!!!!!!
