Green Room Cafe

The Green Room is as hard to find as it is to describe. A two-floor lofty old space in the alley behind Bloor West & Brunswick Ave, this dim-ly lit bohemian hideaway offers cheap eats, cheap drinks and one heck of an eclectic music mix.

great for beers but the food is gross, except if you order something simple like homefries. The fish is always over cooked, salad dressings are too acidic and sauces on the mains are greasy. The veggie pizza appetizer is an insult to the intelligence - Frozen bagged vegetables on a wimpy pitta in bland sauce...not even worth finishing. the cappucino machine has been out of order for at least 5 months, what a disgrace.

the samosas weren't bad, actually! the nachos weren't great, but they're super cheap and do the trick

Ok, former GR employee secrets here:

@ Alisa: We haven't ever had homefries, so im not sure what you're talking about there. However, agreed on the fish. Don't eat it, it's microwaved. The capp machine isn't out of order, we just hate taking the time to make cappuccinos when we're over capacity with no bouncers, so we lie.

@ laurel: the Nachos suck hard nowadays, and the samosas are purchased frozen from Ghazale down the street, so they're edible.

Great for a drink and good atmosphere, but be careful what you eat here! Just read the inspection results from dinesafe.

Good place for cheap drinks (not the best beer selection) and decent "drunk" fries haha. It was pretty sketchy to find though but I liked the atmosphere there.

PRO TIP: The Green Room had an epic health inspection fail, for the fourth time in two years. Possibly closed permanently?

Disgusting - I found a band-aid in my wrap here. I used to like this place because it was cheap and cheerful, but I went there yesterday (Aug 18th) and bit into a used band-aid in my wrap. Absolutely repulsive. I filed a complaint with DineSafe Toronto and will not be going back. Just so disgusting and very little remorse from the kitchen.

Iam looking for a place for my daughters 19th bday gathering, some of her friends will be 18 and some 19.. do you have to be 19 to come to the green room?

No idea if this place is still as gross as it was when I used to go there back in 2009, but it was pretty bad. The kitchen had wide open windows to the outside (no bug screens) in the middle of summer, in the winter the place was a sauna (somehow both overtly hot and humid), and my girlfriend at the time was served a martini with a fruit-fly in it... TWICE in the same night! (They replaced it, but never comped her for it.) I vowed never to go there again after that.

Kim: I wouldn't recommend this place at all, but to answer your question: yes, you need to be 19 (they were checking IDs when I went there in 2009, at least).
