Big Slice

Posted by Staff / Listed on April 8, 2009 / review policy

Big SliceBig Slice reminds me of New York (yeah, I said it). They have a very summer-in-the-city-urban-pizza-joint thing going on with coy but amusing (and amused) boys behind the counter. The slices are big, yes. The pepperoni is tasty. The plain cheese is really soft and greasy, so it's a delight to cover in hot sauce, fold in half and shove in your mouth all at once (or as close as you can get to all at once).

They are so delish when they come fresh out of the oven!

One of my favourite pizza joint in the city. It's cheap, it opens late and delicious when it comes right from the oven. A great place to drop by after a night of clubbing. Best time go are in the afternoon during lunch rush or late at night after the club close.

I must say I've been a fan of this place for over 20 years, but recently the Yonge st store over the last few years has been getting worse in their flavour and infractions, I kid you not I went their today and took a bite of my pepperoni slice and bit into something hard, it was a piece of plastic of some sort showed it to the guy over the counter and he took it as I popped it on the bitten slice, he promptly threw it on the ground and said "Oh that's a piece of dough" I said are you kidding me show me the dough,,, he tried picking up some other stuff off the floor but couldn't find anything so said do you want another slice or your money back... I took my money and left.

I'm saddened by this event as I loved the taste of their slice, but I think careless management and untrained staff are to blame. I think the joint has changed hands from it's hay days, and as stated the last few years it's been going south in the quality scale. Slices are still large but the taste is failing.

I should add, that lack of a diligent and concerned ownership is to blame, staff are only worth what they are paid and you can see there is no enthusiasm or care in the counter staff or visible kitchen staff.
