I'm all about the Kobideh as that's my favorite, but the other menu items are great as well.
The main reason I come to Altona is because of the service.
It's family owned & operated, and they always welcome me with open arms.
I am taking the time to write this at 4am, after I just finished eating my take out at home. That's how good it is!
They are usually open til about 230-3am depending on how busy it is, but I got there tonite right when they were about to close and they still served me.
It sure does pay off to become friends with the owner's son, he's a great guy to talk to & get to know as well. So I can say he is truly my friend.
I'll be honest, before Altona opened up shop I used to frequent the 24 hr grocery store next door (not so) "Super Arzon" or whatever, however the reason I switched was simple.
At Altona, they serve you with a smile and actually ask you for your order. At the grocery store, they could care less.. REALLY! I used to stand there waiting for them to acknowledge me, as other customers that know the language come in AFTER me & order BEFORE me.. I myself not knowing how to order but to say "can I have # 1" and I would have to use my hand to gesture 1. Their menu does not even have english on it. So if I wanted 2 Kobideh's I would have to show and say "2 #1 please"
I was about to write about how bad my overall experiences have become from the grocery store, but let's focus on the Positives of Altona instead.
so again, they greet you with a smile.
They have English menus, they always ask you what they can get for you. Proper beverage selection and most importantly they SPEAK English (unlike next door)
They give a full square sized box, not the 3/4 sized rectangle box so you are guaranteed to be full.
Food quality and flavour is great, spiced & seasoned perfectly IMO. The rice is always the perfect texture and it comes from the giant pot on the stove infront of you (not carried up in a plastic bin type thing from the basement.. *ahem, like they do next door)
When you finish eating, they always thank their customers, not even just me! I see & hear it all the time.
Recently made over to make your dining experience that much better, with actual seating areas. Napkins & cutlery at the tables for you and tables that are clean! =)
I cannot say enough good things about Altona Kebob, and I always try to introduce friends to eat with me there to share in my happiness.
So in the end, for $7 which is again, a big box of beautifully cooked rice, 2 skewers of minced meat, tomato on the side and a drink, great customer service, friendly and clean environment, how can you say no to that?!
McDee's would cost you more and is definitely less healthy.
Bottom line, if you have not tried Altona Kebob then you are truly missing out on a gem in the North York Area.
Trust me, you should go and you can thank me later.
