1. Although this isn't really spelled out anywhere, we do our best to live up to the name of the column by selecting only those photos that have been uploaded to our pool since yesterday's selection. This makes for a smaller group from which to choose.
2. Photos that may be included in future photo-heavy posts on the site are generally avoided to prevent repetition.
3. I happen to think both of the photos you've criticized are enviable work by good photographers.
4. I'd be willingly to discuss hiring a replacement for this task, so please email me at derek[at]blogto[dot]com if you're interested in proving your talents as a photo editor.
