Bloor Street strip among world's priciest for retail rents

Toronto's swanky Bloor Street strip (just west of Yonge) has been ranked 20th in the world of most expensive places for retail rents, according to a survey by a New York-based real estate company.

Cushman & Wakefield says the average rent along the strip is $313 per square foot per year, up from $300 per square foot last year despite ongoing construction. Try fiddling with those numbers if you want to see your calculator cry.

By comparison, though, Bloor Street doesn't hold a candle to New York's Fifth Avenue, with average rents of US$1850 per square foot per year. Good incentive for running your business from your garage.
