After last-minute tease, Miller is not entering the race

Perhaps trying to make the news while he still can, outgoing Mayor David Miller strolled into council chambers this afternoon with a fistful of cash just before the close of official nominations. But, alas, he didn't enter the race, not having enough dough to cover the registration fee. "I shouldn't have frozen my salary," he joked. A real knee-slapper.

There did seem to be a larger purpose to his jaunt, however, as he made a point of saying he doesn't think "municipal elections should be about electing an accountant." (Gee--I wonder who he's talking about...?) "It think they should be about electing a mayor and council who understand this city, every part of it, the needs of every resident."

Official nominations closed at 2p.m. this afternoon. At least that closes the door to additional insurgent John Tory speculation.
