Posted by Tim / July 22, 2010

Banksy TorontoThe Banksy just off Spadina between Sullivan and Bulwer streets is looking a little less Banksy today. Why no love FLC?

Thanks to Cory for the photo and tip.

I equate this with the girls who show up at concerts, jump on stage, and flash their ghost-white tits at the audience. They can't stand to have the spotlight directed elsewhere, even if they've done nothing to earn the spotlight themselves. So very sad. FLC has diminished the city.

Banksy is faux culture at it's best.

The amount of hate and lack of respect in this city for what other people do is quite tiring.

nobody seems to really get the point of graffiti...FLC is doing what ALL graffiti artists do...Banksy laughs at all of you who would elevate what he does above where it truly exists and belongs. Guess why it's a rat? Because you all don't get that you are oblivious test subjects in an ironic social commentary/experiment. Toronto people aren't so much haters as they are just stupid.

So graffiti is equivalent to culture itself now? That has to be one of the most retarded statements I've ever read here.

Toronto kind of chuckles at you for making sweeping generalizations (based on blog comments) calling entire cities stupid.

Everyone throws a bitch fit whenever Banksy gets tagged over... and they just need to get over it. He's a street artist, he puts his stuff out on the street. If it gets cleaned or sprayed over that's part of the medium he has chosen to work with. It wasn't meant to be framed and preserved so that future generations would one day know the greatness that was Banksy.

Given FLC, be it crew or writer is nothing compared to Banksy in terms of worldwide notoriety. But that's how they want to write, and if they're shit they'll get written over themselves and the circle starts all over again.

I agree with scouser_33. Grafitti has a short lifetime and more than anyone, artists know that. I suspect FLC is using the fame of Bansky to get attention. After all, here we are talking about them on the internet. I just think it's too easy.

Sooooooo, if I'm to read this correctly...when Banksy spray paints on somebody else's property, it's "culture", but when FLC spray paints something on top of somebody else's spray paint on somebody else's property, it's "disrespect" and he's a "hater".

Yeah, that makes no sense.

I accept that graffiti is evanescent. And I understand that Banksy isn't everyone's cup of tea. But all that FLC has done here is splatter his or her bile over something that some of us, at least, found interesting and pleasurable. Why has FLC done this? For no defensible reason. For an expression of ego.

fight fire with fire. to everyone complaining that something good/interesting has been painted over, paint over FLC's shitty tag yourself with something better. it's street art - it's vandalism that is going to get vandalized, like it or not. best accept it and move on, or one-up the hater.

What ever it may be it's safe to say it all looks like shit.
