Burrowing machines coming to the GTA

Posted by Robyn Urback / July 30, 2010

Soon this little guy is going to have to make room as eight boring machines make their way to the GTA.

TTC chair Adam Giambrone at a news conference this morning said the machines are set to burrow under parts of the GTA within a few years. The machines will work on the Spadina subway extension and Eglinton LRT projects, turning the city into "one of the biggest production sites of tunnelling in the entire world," according to Giambrone. Indeed, one of the most prestigious titles a city can hold.

The Spadina machines will be delivered by the first quarter of 2011. Construction under Eglinton is scheduled to begin Spring 2012. Keep it in mind before making a silkscreen for "Toronto Earthquake 2.0."

There's no way Toronto will come even close to the amount of tunneling set for, say, Shanghai in the next decade. (see http://www.bricoleurbanism.org/whimsicality/shanghais-metro-and-londons-tube-head-to-head/)

Giambrone should leave the hyperbole for the mayoral candidates and do some more "mental tunneling" on the whole presto vs credit card system fiasco instead.

I'm waiting to see if all 8 will combine to form Devestator, and wreak budgetary havoc across the GTA

Eight boring machines?
I wonder if we can find eight boring politicians to operate them.
Mayoral candidates please sign up below. Rob Ford of course wouldn't bother with the expense; he'll just bully the rock out of the way
