Khorak Supermarket

Posted by Arina / Posted on August 18, 2010

Toronto Khorak SupermarketKhorak Supermarket is the head honcho of Persian stores: hot food take out, jewellery, bakery, butcher, grocery and a patio upon which to gaze at your new purchases. The hub of the Persian community, this store is open 24/7, which is incredibly convenient when you wake up in the middle of the night and suddenly realize you need cashews, or goat hoofs, or a diamond necklace.

All the products are very pricey such as fig jams, pomegranate molasses, etc. The high prices are enough to make people want to shop elsewhere.

We get amazing "chelou kabab" (chicken kababs?) with the rice every week with no fail. It is the best I think though there are many wonderful Persian take-outs which we have also tried. Produce is just ok and you cannot get decent henna there. (For that I go to Indian Foods on Lawrence Ave. E)

They provide different quality food products and Persian dishes at reasonable prices but there is one big put off. when entering, there is a signs in English and Farsi asking you when entering the shop, you must submit all bagging you have to cashier and reserve their right to search your belongings anytime in store! crazy no?I agree that there can be some occasions of shoplifting but they have camera with big monitor CCTV and they can check in a better way like everywhere else in Canada.

Last time I was there, one of their staff, a dark skinned old guy with white hairs approached me and hanging around me for almost 4 minutes peeping inside my bag even I never went inside their store but just restaurant part to order food.
very Impolite manner. I personally never try it again!

I was disappointed with their rude service when checking out my grocery. I noticed that they charged me extra and when I asked they said to contact the manager and the manager did not help. It was just a pain to get my money back.

I highly recommend to double check invoices.

I agree with Amir and Aria. They treat customers very badly, specially with their sign at the door and the act of approaching people about their bags. It is insulting. Most often they themselves charge people extra, intentionally, while, they treat customers like thieves. People please don't go to a place that do not respect you. They should go out of business. They do not worth your time and money.
