I'm disappointed this place didn't make it onto the list of top ten seafood places in Toronto, while its two counterparts at the St. Lawrence Market did. Does the writer have something against them? I've tried all three stores and this one had the most genuine, friendly service, helpful advice and in some cases, the cheapest fish. Since they all seem to get the same supply at pretty much the same time, there are no other differences to note.
I usually frequent Domenic's more than the other seafood places in the Market, but I just had the worst experience there today. I wanted to buy an assortment of oysters. A person ahead of me did so no problem. The lady who helped me seemed annoyed from my first interaction with her, when I asked for some scallops, and then made no effort to check the oysters (as they usually do, as the person who served the person before me did). When I asked (nicely, I swear) if I could check them, she got all agitated and started snapping at me. Another staff member came over and whispered to me that she didn't really know what she was doing, but the angry-lady told him that he should serve me and then continued to snap at and badmouth me saying that I wanted to handle all the oysters and complained that I was only buying two-three of each kind (at $2 each, and considering they didn't have many left anyway, I don't see why that was a big deal). She treated me like I was inconveniencing her the entire time. I almost wish I had told her off, but I was just too stunned as I'd never witnessed anything like that before, especially not at Domenic's.
