New kid on the block, Brayham Contemporary Art, is a commercial art gallery located in Leslieville. In less than a year of operation, the gallery has quickly gained recognition in the Toronto art scene, paving the way for a much anticipated gallery district along Queen St. East.
Under the curatorial direction of Angela Brayham, the gallery represents close to a dozen emerging and mid-career artists from Canada and the States, working in photography, painting, printmaking, drawing, installation and mixed media.
Brayham brings over 15 years experience as a director and curator, having worked the art scene from Colorado to Georgia to Vancouver and now Toronto.
When asked what challenges she faces as the 'new kid', Brayham admits it's been tough attracting buyers and art-goers to an unestablished gallery district.
Challenges aside, the arrival of Brayham Contemporary Art is a promising sign for east-enders like myself who are hungry for a thriving gallery district closer to home. Only time will tell. Rome wasn't built in a day.
