Trainers Fitness Centre

Trainers
Trainers Fitness may not have the frills of other downtown Toronto fitness clubs. There are no steam rooms. No towel service. The classes are basic and the showers are communal. But for residents in the Annex looking for a convenient place to lift some weights or burn some calories on the treadmill, Trainers might just fit the bill.

Located in a sprawling two story space on Bathurst just south of Honest Ed's, Trainers features a huge variety of free weights and machines on the lower level; and a good mix of cardio on the main floor. There are half a dozen TVs, a collection of spin bikes and an enclosed studio space for yoga and other classes.

Rates and Initiation Fee

A 12 month membership costs $44 a month while a 6 month plan is $399, or $66.50 a month. It's too bad about the extra $44 initiation fee but at least Trainers has a special rate for full time students.

Towels, Lockers and Showers

Don't expect much here. The locker and shower facilities are very basic and could use an upgrade. I'd start with private showers to replace the communal ones. There is no towel service, so it's strictly bring your own. An overnight locker costs $15 a month.

Personal Training, Yoga and Spin

There are classes every day but Friday although the schedule is a little light. There are no morning classes save for yoga on Sunday at 10:30am. Spin takes place twice a week. The schedule is supplemented with classes with names like cardio fusion, cardio kick, body sculpt, butts and gutts and punch boxing conditioning. Personal training packages are available at various price points.

Food and Juice

Some basic re-fueling options are available for sale including protein bars and drinks, Guru energy drinks, water and Gatorade.

Worth Mentioning

The gym is seldom crowded and has a small membership base so no need to worry about lining up for the 25 LB barbell.

Days and Hours of Operation

At the time of this post Trainers Fitness is open Monday to Thursday, 6am - 10pm; Friday from 6am - 9pm; Saturday from 9am - 6pm and Sundays from 9am - 5pm. It's always best to check the web site for the most up to date info.

The fact that fitness clubs are listed under 'Fashion' on BlogTO should be a good indicator that if you simply need a good quiet place to get a workout done, this is it!

It's always quiet... it's usually pretty clean, and if you're looking for towel service or fruit smoothies this place is well below your price range.

Best gym in the area by far. Great selection of machines and free weights. Lots of good classes and the staff is very friendly. Good mix of people young and old.

I've been a Trainers member for two years now and it is a great gym! Even at peak times I've never had to wait to use equipment, there are lots of good classes and the instructors are motivating and helpful.

Very accurate description of the gym. If you live in the area, it's very convenient. Going to the gym shouldn't be about fancy towel service or pretty lockers anyway. Sure, some of the machines are a little out-dated but the staff is friendly and always lends a hand when needed. I would choose this gym over a lot of fancier places because it's the cheapest gym I've encountered so far AND it's amazing to be able to go on any cardio machine whenever you want for as long as you want. It's really great not having to sign up for a cardio machine or waiting to use a barbell.

This gym has FANTASTIC value for money. They have a ton of interesting classes (although most are in the evening, not good for the early birds) which range from yoga to boxing. The staff is really friendly and helpful, and even know your name.

The changerooms are simple, there isn't a lot of flair to the place, but it gets the job done and without breaking the bank.

All i can say is this is how a gym is supposed to be run. No BS everyone is very stand up helpful and friendly! I've been going to this gym for 6 months and had a great experience. It has everything that you need to keep in shape, great trainers that keep you motivated and great classes (included in the membership ) to top it off. There are no pressure tactics or contracts to buy more. Facilities are always kept clean. Best experience I've had so far at a gym.

Great gym. The place offers a class for every type and level of fitness and the trainers are some of the nicest most dedicated people. And as i have been a member of at least 3 clubs in the area, i can say it is the best value for the price, especially since most of the classes are included.

Trainers is great. No one ever bothers you, the music is at a reasonable level and there are no kids or meatheads. I recommend this gym to everyone. It's a great neighbourhood place for women and men.

Value for your dollar - an Average Joe's gym.

Equipment is not new, but works.
Staff and trainers friendly and are not pushy to sell you anything. Group classes are good work outs, and fun.
Healthy balance of men and women, young and old, and various fitness levels. Membership is friendly. Clean and quiet.

In general its void of big negatives, and big perks... but its a place where you go and conveniently work out in peace.
