Kingwest Fitness

Posted by Tim / Posted on February 11, 2008

Kingwest FitnessKingwest Fitness is a spacious fitness club in a beautifully restored factory in Liberty Village. Its soaring ceilings, post and beam finishes and massive factory windows offer some serious eye-candy (or at least design-candy) and there's so many square feet to roam around that even when it's busy it doesn't really seem that way.

One side of the club showcases a range of cardio options including ellipticals, treadmills, bikes and Stairmasters. Each come equiped with their own audio controls which make it easy to tune into one of the six TV stations and listen to whatever the Satellite TV programming is transmitting at the moment. On the other side of the club there's a good mix of free weights and machines; and in the middle an enclosed studio space is home to spinning, yoga and boxing classes.

Unlike some clubs there is zero attitude here. There is local art on the walls and a table of brochures and flyers highlighting neighbourhood events.

Kingwest Fitness TorontoRates and Initiation Fee

Membership fees range from $28 to $32.50 bi-weekly.

Towels, Lockers and Showers

Towel service is included in the membership. An overnight locker will run you $15 a month but there are plenty of full-size lockers available for day use. The showers are private and in good condition. There is also a steam room. Body lotion, shampoo, Q-tips, a hair dryer and razors are all provided.

Personal Training, Yoga and Spin

The gym has a number of buff and fit-looking personal trainers on their roster. Sessions are $70 each. Classes are dispersed throughout the week but rarely if ever take place in the mornings. Most are between 6 and 9pm although there are a few during lunch hour. Yoga (Hatha, Power and Ashtanga) is offered five times a week. There is also Jukari, pilates, Hip Hop Dance and Strip to Fit. All classes except boxing (taught by a Certified Level 1 boxing coach) are included in the membership.

Kingwest FitnessFood and Juice

There is small juice bar where staff can whip you up a tasty protein or meal replacement shake. There are also some protein bars available. If all else fails, Oro Caffe is just downstairs.

Worth Mentioning

They also have a women's only section to the gym and offer tanning services.

Days and Hours of Operation

At the time of this post the gym is open Monday to Thursday, 6am - 11pm; Friday from 6am - 10pm and Saturday and Sundays from 9am - 6pm. It's always best to check the web site for the most up to date info.

This gym is BEAUTIFUL, airy, spacious, light-filled, and no pretense or affectation, just a great place to work out for those who really want to work!

I've worked out at many, many gyms/clubs in my time but King West is easily the best one yet! It's got great equipment in a great facility but best of all, the people are fantastic!!

This is a Great Gym with a great layout, all about a serious workout, without having to wait for equipment in a convenient downtown location.

The best gym I've ever been to - friendly and helpful staff, quality equipment, trainers who actually know how to train, and a great physical space. Even after I moved out of the neighbourhood, I still go to King West Fitness - because it is THAT good!

As the owner of a private school for elite athletes (PEAC School For Elite Athletes in Downsview Park) I can comment on the high level of sport-specific knowledge possessed by the personal training department. Surprisingly enough, Sandro and Jerry (the co-owners of Kingwest) are also incredibly knowledgeable in this area. Although I own my own gym as a part of my school, the clean, friendly, professional environment at Kingwest makes it the preferred place for me to train. I am very pleased that this hidden gem has finally got the recognition it deserves.

Kingwest fitness is simply the best facility in the GTA. Coming from Vancouver B.C, it has been a 3 year mission and personal challenge of mine to find a gym that has a clean, open, and safe environment, with friendly and knowledgeable staff. My mission came to an end in 2007 when I met Sandro, an owner, and he openly invited me to tour and use the gym facilities. Since the gym and living an active lifestyle is a huge part of me, i found my home away from home at Kingwest fitness. It meets and exceeds my expectations from the vast array of new equipment, free weights and cardio equipment, to the nutritional supplements available at the body fuel shop. My favorite things about going to Kingwest is the peace of mind knowing that I will never have to wait to use any piece of equipment. Whether I go early am or during peak times, I always manage to get in and have a tremendously amazing workout. Another favorite for me are the clients of Kingwest fitness. They are very friendly and inviting, I have not found any gym attitude here. It makes the atmosphere and energy inviting and motivating. Since coming to Kingwest fitness my life has definately been enhanced in betterment. This facility has many features available from tanning to physiotherapy. Thank you Kingwest Fitness staff and management for always being there to make my training experiences pleasurable. Kingwest fitness is a MUST see and join on your to do list.

The only shortcoming is that there is no childcare - it is a wonderful gym, but has a lifespan for us 20 & 30 something women

This club is pitched as a high end gym, although it really doesn't have anything that makes it stand out or classify it as "high end"

6 out of 10 is my vote, the steam room is never on and takes forever to heat up.

I was a member last year and decided my condo gym had the same equipment and "I never waited in line for a machine" either.

One of the best kept secrets in the area. If you are looking for a place that treats you as a person and not a number, KWF is the place to be!!! I used to work out across the street at one of the chains but there is no comparison if you are interested in working out and getting in shape!!!!! Do yoursef a favor and check it out before joining somewhere else. If you need childcare or love classes or travel often, then the chain.

I joined King West Fitness when I took over someone else's membership that was leaving the area. I find King West Fitness way above any of the other gyms I have joined in the past. The people are just wonderful, great facility and no waiting for equipment like I had to in the past. I recommend this gym to anyone who wants a great place to work out

I don't usually send in comments for anything but recently I saw posters being put up on my street that King West is going bankrupt and not to buy a membership. I checked the place out and I AM BUYING A MEMBERSHIP. You have to be pretty sick to put that up in this neighborhood and think the people here are going to buy into it. I spoke to some current members and they just love the place so I am in and gonna spread the word.

well.. I kinda know why there were posters saying it's going bankrupt :) one of the receptionist there stole things and the owner fired that person. And the posters were purely a revenge behaviour!! enough said.. I heard the gym is getting renovated soon and upgrading some of the facility soon. So it's only getting better. Yes I am a member there and there's nothing wrong for me to defend for somewhere I love.

Avoid at all cost! They pressure you every time you go into buying expensive personal training sessions (> $1500 packages!!!) giving by underpaid employees more or less qualified. Most of the positive comments above were written by the ownership.

Personal training sales are a part of EVERY gym in the world (go to Goodlife or Extreme and tell me you didn't get pressured). If you don't need the service simply turn it down. I think this place is supercool and well layed out. The new reno's look great.

Not true, im talking pressured sale from the ownership at EVERY visit while you're exercising or even in the lockeroom(!), this is to say the least VERY uncommon...I've never experimented that before, no...

The weak membership (this place is always empty) probably explains why you need to get that extra $1000-$2000 from each member to pay the bills but it makes it a major pain for your current membership...
Jack M. / August 8, 2010 at 11:36 am

The new owners don't have a high pressure approach Vicky. I'm sorry you feel like you are being hounded on every visit. Quite simply, that doesn't happen. Member there for 5 years now and haven't had any pressure since I was first presented the info 5 years ago.

Kevin Knott is the new owner. Stop in and let him know about your concerns. I'm SURE you won't recieve the same treatment.

After seeing the CBC speacial tonight on crooked gyms I thought I should warn those at or thinking of using King West Fitness. I was working near by at Corus entertainment and joined the gym. A few months later I went out to work in Vancouver for a short period of time. It turned out to be a longer stay then anticipated so I contacted the gym and told them to cancel my membership. 2 Month later I noticed they were still taking funds out so I called back. They told me at that point in I needed to cancel in person, LOL I was in Vancouver. I went to TD and had then put a stop payment on King West Fitness. For the three months after that I noticed a KWF Mortgage payment being taken out of my account. As soon as I got back to Toronto I went to the TD bank across from King West Fitness to find out what was going on and they said this is not the first time that the gym has changed their name to continue to remove funds. The bank investigated it and refunded the last 90 days.

DO NOT TRUST THIS GYM. ONLY PAY CASH. NEVER GIVE THEM YOUR BANKING INFO!

I hope this gym and other shady gyms get shut down.

In addition to my post above I should mention it was two years ago, if it's new ownbers now I hope they are not shady like the last one(s).

Pay by cash should be an option, without handing over a cheque. I now go to a great gym where it's cash only, no entry fee, and you can put you membership on hold for as long as you like at no cost.

Most gyms are such rip-offs.

Hey. Read all the comments before checking out the place, but found that with the new management, the Cardio-Go's King West location is a totally different place! Met up with Brennan at the studio and had a great talk about the changes and he's really keen on breathing new life into it. Also took along a bikini model to work with trainer Tony from the club for a post-holiday routine.

Here's a quick link to a few clips of what we saw:

Jack M, you say you've been a member for years...even though Gerry and "Sandroid" were horrible in pressuring people to buy pricy personal training given by unqualified cheap labor.....why would you stick around..??

I agree, it's pretty obvious you work there...and as far as the new administration, i'm not even sure it's true.....

To everyone - they are better/cheaper options for gyms in this neighborhood, e.g. GoodLife...this place is not worth you trust

Oggie, why don't you just walk in and see for yourself instead of being a douche. Their prices are actually lower than Goodlife. And new owners have been in place and active since last spring. Nothing like hiding behind blog posts with strong, unqualified comments.

Dude - you are obviously working for that gym...read the comments, many people agree this place is shady...you were a member with the "old" administration, what did you think of their management style? Why did you stick around? Answering this might give you an ounce of credibility....

If you came out and say: "listen i work there, and i'm telling you, we don't rip off people like the former owners did before", it would be a good start to regain people's confidence...

Jack, since you seem to have an answer for everything. Tell me this. I liked the gym and signed up, was told there are absolutely no promotion going on. couple of days later, found there is an offer that allows new members to pay 10 times lesser for no contract month to month membership. i kid you not!! apparently im not a new member/unlucky because i joined 2 days earlier due to my own interest on the gym. i am very disappointed as i wasnt made aware of it. felt ripped off, the manager is instantly happy to cancel my membership, and says thats life. deals come and go!! lmao!! haha...oh pleasee!!! wasnt he aware tht there is gonna be an offer in 2 days?

ive been in canada for over 5 years now, and never felt so discriminated in my life. wutever, i bet if the actual owner knew bout this, understands my frustration, he'd do something. i got no prob affording the gym, i dont give a fck about money, they got the irons, i want the pumps. but u know wut i mean. im sharing the gym with 60 guys that are paying 9 dollars a month n theyre lucky why? cuz they werent aware of the existence of this gym until 2 days later i joined. ill have to cancel it in a when i go on a vacation. and this will be the only reason ill be cancelling my membership.

i wanna add that, do not get me wrong. its not fair to blame the entire gym for the way i feel. honestly its a good gym nonetheless, regardless they were being unreasonable to me. if the gym doesn't get crowded. i can see myself turning into a bodybuilder in 6 months if i ignore the obstacles and hit it regularly. just workout with ur head fones on, and leave.

I apologize for the misunderstanding. It turns out the manager wasn't aware of the deal himself and was out of his control. So, its all cool. Hi, I thought I would add some comments as I've been a new member here since July of 2010. I've had nothing but a wonderful experience since I joined. There is always something new being built or renovated (Jukari, Spin Room) and the staff a genuinely up for making my experience a good one. The energy is wonderful with new people joining all the time!

Let's face it, there are a lot of gyms out there with varying reputations based on individuals past experiences. While some are true it doesn't reflect the entire story. These guys are a private club trying to make it in the big box club world and are doing a great job. Give them a chance already!

I purchased a 3 month membership with King West Fitness from Team Buy and this is the BEST GYM IN TORONTO!!! Great space, great classes and great members. I like to club so much that myself and 4 other friends decided to sign up for a membership after our 3 month promo.
I also purchased 24 personal training sessions and it's been great thus far! King West Fitness has the best staff, very friendly and the gym is never packed to a point where I have to wait for a machine!!
Thanks King West

I recently moved to Liberty Village about 4 months ago and shopped around the area for a new gym destination. I looked and tried place like Goodlife Fitness which was horrible! Every single hour that gym was jus packed! 99 Sudbury where it wasn't bad but their gym set up was horrible, I've also heard stories of drunken men and women walking into the opposite sex dressing rooms when 99 sudburry holds their nightly social events on a weekly basis.

Anyways, I finally had a chance for a tour of King West Fitness and I loved the space. The staff was just so friendly. After my tour I immediately signed up for a 1 year term but they also have a no contract option. However, the kind gentlemen who toured me told me to pick the 1 year term because it's cheaper and you can put your membership on hold twice for a $10 fee! Up to 6 months! As an Actress/Model I can sometimes work out of the country, so that membership did make most sense for me.

The classes are great! The manager at the club convinced me to try their new class Jukari and I loved it! The gym is never overly busy where I would have to wait for machines and their equipment also really good. They have a juice bar that's sell the most delicious shakes, a very unique space at the gym, great classes, cute staff lol and great customer service.
My only complaint is that they need to install TV's for the cardio section.

To Oggie:
I don't who Jack is but the club's rates are actually lower than 99 sudbury and goodlife. However, I've heard Goodlife can be more flexible with the rates but Goodlife don't even have enough equipment to accomodate their members. It's funny bc many of the girls I've made friends with at King West were previous Goodlife members! LOL They also told me that Goodlife was horrible.

Anyways I love the gym and I did my shopping in the area. King West Fitness made the most sense, they offered me the best price but what really sold me was their customer service. I don't feel like a number at that gym.

Hi. I just moved to Toronto and am looking for a new gym. I was wondering if this gym has free available parking.
Also, I saw that unlucky mentioned that they have some special offers, and was wondering if the 9 dollars per month is an actual offer or was it just to illustrate a point...
Is 28-32 dollars biweekly a reasonable price around this area or are there cheaper better gyms? I moved here from the US where i was in a 24/7 gym filled with all kind of equipment and was paying about 25 dollars per month. Any feedback will be appreciated.

no way. it's probably just an offer to bring the people in for a test drive and switch it with a yearly plan. how would any gym make any money if they only charge 9 dollars a month?

good luck finding any gym for 25 a month. this is canada, everything is expensive. if u dont care about the environment try a community gym like trinity bellwood parks. itll stil b expensive 40 a mnth at least. heard univ of toronto has a good cheaper gym, dont know about its price. ymca is 60 dollars around month. forget about good life chains.

I went in for a tour at King West Fitness last week and the membership coordinator of the club gave me a 3-visit pass and told me to try it out because I was really concern with the amount of equipment they had. The space is very nice but equipment was an issue, I'm a gym junkie and don't like having to wait for machines.
Jay didn't pressure me with any kind of sales tactics just told me to try out the gym for 3 workouts and said 'I'm sure you'll sign up after." Tried it out and this gym is great for me, never overly busy at all, get my workout done with no distractions.

Love the comments. I wonder if any of the anti-gym people have ever opened a successful business and truly wonder how they would respond if it was their business..... Easy to type bs but suprisingly difficult to bring any credibility to comments made. The electronic age has made email heroes out of everywho...same people who cower when asked to back it up. You should focus your energy on Goodlife and extreme who scam people for millions every year.... Or is Kwf just an easy target?? Enjoy, every comment rank them higher and gets more attention. !!! It's been 5 months now since I joined this gym and it's been a good experience. Their equipment does need to be updated a bit but it does more then get the job done. I've been seeing a trainer at the club for 3 months now and it's been great. The only negative feedback I really have is the locker rooms, they need to have a minor renovation.
Overall, I've been at many commercial gyms and what differentiates this gym from the others is their customer service...

I just went into the gym to check out the Jukari class. No pressure at all and given all the info about month to month that I asked for. Good to be aware though that the Jukari and some of the other specialty classes are extra, although you do receive a discount if you are a member. Non members can also buy a class package or do drop-in. If you are a class junkie like me, it is a good way to check out the club without becoming a member right away.

I joined this gym back in May with a livingsocial deal. Took advantage of the two months with attending their wide variety of group ex-classes and had to sign up after my membership expired. I'm officially a member now and I'm happy I decided to join. The club has some uniquefitness classes like Boxfit and crossfit which are my favorites. I tried their Jukari and thta was so much fun but it really depends one which instructor you have.
Great customer service, the manager of club is always walking around and socializing with the members and getting feedback. They do need to make a few improvements though such as adding TV's, shower stalls could look a litte better but not a big deal and some new equipment.

Is this place still in business? Its dead all the time and there are no classes.... how do they even do it with Goodlife across the street with 100's of classes, free parking and are cheaper?? My choice was easy.

I just visited the club over the weekend and I don't know why this website exists and is pointed to on their main site... All of the poeple on here are owners or friends and the other half the comments are anti-kingwest... why would they HIGHLIGHT this on their website???? Good marketing move folks....

My opinion, nothing great about the club, not very clean, dustballs everywhere and mens showers are horrible and half-broken. Same price to go to a club across the street where you know they have standards. Worked out and was the pretty much the only person there, they may sell you on how great that is but its actually pretty depressing.. I like seeing people working out and providing some motivation to me. If you are completely anti-social then this is the place for you.

2 out of 5 for me.

Here's my story:
I moved into the area 2 months ago and did my research on fitness clubs in the area. Every gym in the area, 99 Sudburry, Goodlife Fitness, YMCA and Kingwest Fitness had reviews. YMCA and 99 Sudburry had for the most part negative reviews and I tried out those gyms and they were alright. 99 Sudbury had horrible customer service!
Tried out Goodlife and it was nice facility but way TOO BUSY! I could never get a workout done but my wife did enjoy the classes. We went to Kingwest Fitness and their customer service was excellent but their equipment and change rooms needed some improvements. However, they are currently in renovations right now to improve their equipment and change rooms. We did a trial membership and now've signed up for a membership.
If you're looking for a fancy health club Kingwest Fitness is not your spot but if you're looking for a well cleaned and great customer service then this is the spot for you. We only chose Kingwest Fitness bc of their customer service and the fact that we plan to stay in the area for a couple years.

Can anyone tell me if they have actually updated their changerooms? They told me it would be done by now when I was in their last but I haven't heard anything either way. It's been on their "list" for about a year and it's really getting to me. I would come back over to KWF from Goodlife if they improve their changerooms, buy NEW equipment instead of the 10 year old stuff in there and add CLASSES to the schedule. There are only about 7 classes a week compared to my Goodlife's 40+.. For a female KWF is not a good place. Good for the meat heads that like to throw around big weights and grunt and groan... Goodlife seems to avoid those guys.. thankfully.

My suggestion to anyone who is looking to join up is give this gym a try, they have trial memberships which are fantastic. I have been going to this gym since Kevin took over and I dont know anything about past owners. Kevin has been unreal, he is the owner of the gym and says hi everytime I am there and chats me up. The staff is really friendly and always willing to help. They also have some crazy unique classes. I have never been to a class like Keegan puts on, high energy, crazy exercises, challenging all people to complete. I have never been to a gym that I want to go to, it has always felt like it is something I had to do, King West makes me want to go. Awesome job KWF and keep it up, this gym is by far the best gym i have been too. I have converted over my friends to come and even some co workers.

Do not believe their lies! I was led to believe this was a "no strings attached" gym - and that is not the case. They DO charge cancellation fees and not to mention that, but they won't tell you that they also require a month's notice to cancel so they'll charge you to cancel and then still charge you an extra month on top of that. They will say whatever you want to hear to get you signed up and then back pedal when you have been dissatisfied and want to leave. Shame on them! POOR customer service, POOR atmosphere, POOR gym!

DO NOT RECOMMEND in any way.

I just referred my two brothers to the club. When they signed up they were presented with more than 4 different membership options with only one option that had a "strings attached" which made clear as it stated 1 year term membership. My brothers went with the cheapest rate as they're both athletes and need a gym.
Anyways, the gym ain't perfect but they have great customer service as I'm always greeted at the front desk by my name and great classes. They do need to update a few things but it's come a long way since the new management.

I joined KWF in 2011. I think the total after tax was like $420 for the year. Not a bad deal. During my first year, I did see some improvements to the gym, but not many. I didn't want to go to the Goodlife in Liberty Village, as I had heard that it's always busy there, and my #1 pet peeve is waiting for gym equipment. For a good portion of 2011, the gym always seemed to be "under construction." Sort of like one of those HGTV shows where the homeowners starts a dozen projects at once, but never really completes any of them. There was a time when the TVs were taken down and I swear it took MONTHS to replace them. Granted, they were replaced with nice flat screen TVs, things never seemed to happen at a normal pace. It always seemed that the people doing the work were never on the "up and up" and some of it seemed shoddy. They made some structural improvements for the Jukari floor (which again seemed to take forever), and as I watched it happened, I kept wondering if they had pulled the proper permits from the city to perform the work, as again, it didn't seemed to be handled by professionals. I renewed my membership for 2012, and this time it was something like $550 upfront, but now that it's almost April, I fail to see the improvements that were made to justify the almost 25% increase. The likelihood of me staying with KWF for a 3rd membership term is highly unlikely. Over the past few weeks, things have gone from bad to worse. Most of the showers in the Men's locker room are "out of order" after there was allegedly an incident involving an intoxicated non-member. I can't wait to see how long these repairs are going to take. As one of the earlier posters mentioned, the locker rooms have been on their "to do" list for quite some time. The members even received an email about it before Christmas, saying that they were planning on renovations. Well, it's almost April, and things have only gotten worse. Also, as earlier posters have mentioned, don't be fooled by the raving reviews also posted in the forum. They are obviously undercover gym employees/sympathizers. There seems to be quite a high turnover of the staff, which I'm not sure if that's typical of an establishment of this type or not. There always seems to be a TON of KWF employees congregated at the front desk, particularly during the evenings, texting, checking Facebook. At one time there was this super bossy cleaning lady, but I'm not sure what happened to her. She'd routinely be in the guys locker room cleaning during NORMAL business hours, and flip out at anyone who was wearing shoes across a freshly mopped flor. I'm not sure how that was allowed to happen. I don't see a guy being allowed to clean the women's locker room....which sorta leads me to my next point. The management of the place is CHEAP with a capital C. A lot of the equipment is well past its expected lifespan and needed to be replaced 5 years ago. However, it doesn't stop them from hosting random fashion shows/photo shoots in the gym which are routinely in the way of members just trying to get their workout in. Also, for some reason, they are SUPER stingy with the air conditioning on warm days. I'm sorry, but the whole point for joining a gym is to workout INSIDE away from the HEAT. For the membership $$$ they charge, they can afford a few more $$$ on their hydro bill each month. The other members seem to be nice people. Always willing to offer a spot. There are a few meatheads, but they are few and far between. At times, there can be some decent eye candy. But all in all, things here are getting worse, and over the past few weeks it seems like something is going on. There have been times when multiple machines have been out of order. It looks like I'll be heading over to Goodlife if things continue the way they are... evidentially there's much better eye candy over there anyway... A few months ago, I would have recommended this place, but not anymore.

Wow that couldn't have summarized it better.. stuff I've been thinking all along. I too did the dollar a day membership with mixed feelings about the whole thing. Yes it was cheap but I basically got what I paid for. This place has been "under construction" for the entire length of my membership now.. I just quit and went to Goodlife which although busier does have much nicer "eye candy" and much better equipment, classes, etc.. You know what to expect there day to day.
What they are doing at KWF I don't know, but I'm sure it simply points to LACK OF MONEY or just being really cheap. And the only thing I would add is the owners or whoever those guys are that hang out in that back office are pretentious pricks who believe they are gods of some sort.. IF you have that much money and are that arrogant why would you have a gym that is so run down. Whatever the case I'm glad I left as I know I won't be out of a gym when they shut down soon. I'm not comfortable giving my CC info to a gym that appears to be on the verge of going under.

Not recommended at all unless someone pumps A LOT OF MONEY into the place, which I just don't see happening.

KingWest Fitness Management wanted to take the opportunity to respond to Ncboi’s recent comments about our club.

We fully understand and agree with your point about the construction taking so long and the resulting inconvenience. We initially did a deal with a resource to handle the renovation however after commencing work, they disappeared and left us hanging and embarrassed. We have since hired another company who is on the final stretch of completing the work. Estimated completion date is May 1st.

We also agree with your point about staff congregating at the front checking text messages and facebook. This is unacceptable and provides a very poor image of our club. We thank you for bringing this to our attention. In terms of staff turnover, we have only had two employees leave the club over the past twelve months on mutual terms, one being the cleaning staff that you mentioned. Our staff is one of our greatest assets and we are very proud to have such a loyal, friendly and knowledgeable team.

In regards to A/C in the summer or heat – please report any discomfort to our staff who will immediately address the issue. Our building is heritage and difficult to heat/cool with consistency.

In response to your comment about KingWest Fitness vs. Goodlife – we are not Goodlife nor do we strive to be anything like the big “chains”. We have a unique and beautiful environment and a very loyal membership base who we strive to serve with evolving services and an excellent fitness experience.
To help us compete with the “chains”, we recently did a reciprocal deal with Cambridge Group of Clubs which will allow our members to use Toronto Athletic Club, Adelaide Club and Montreal Athletic club on a limited monthly basis!

Ncboi, we hope to improve your perception of the club during the remainder of 2012. If you have any questions or further feedback, feel free to drop in to see myself (Brian), Kevin or Jay at anytime.

Look for our new website launching in May 2012 for more of what’s to come!

I've been a member of this gym since 2005. It's true, there has been a positive difference in atmosphere since the new owners took over. Lots of classes were added, interior change and even in the employee's and trainers. One way you can determine this is by the turnover rate. Virtually all the people that have worked here since the new owners took over, have stayed. As for being a member...you have to check it out yourself. I love the friendliness, the variety of classes, the cleanliness, the big open space, and how cheap it is (especially compared to what people paid with the original owners). They want your opinion when it comes to how the classes are and where they need to improve. I've visited other gyms for short periods of time and can honestly say its the best gym I've been to. My only beef - I would like to see even more classes during the week and weekend particular with zumba (currently only 1) and cross-fit (would like it more than twice per week). I imagine that will happen as new members come in. Hoping this helps.

I just read Brians comments and would like to add. There is absolutely NO comparison with King West Fitness vs Good Life. Good Life is part of a chain of fitness clubs while King West is a private gym where they value your opinion and membership.

I have been a member of King West Fitness for over a year now. I used to be a member at Good Life Fitness in Liberty Village before..I changed over to King West because Good Life was ALWAYS packed and it's great if you want to be picked up by guys staring at you waiting for you to get off the treadmill. The layout is not well thought out and to be blunt...I wanted to hire a personal trainer and the person who signed me up, the front desk person AND the trainer were NOT in good shape! If you are going to promote a gym, fitness and health, you better make sure your staff represent that! I left and decided to check out King West. I initially met with Jay Arzadon who is the gym manager and a personal trainer. He was so easy to talk too and I let him know my fears about working out and especially feeling intimidated going into the weight area (that at Goodlife was dominated by guys flexing their muscles and looking shocked that a woman dare enter THEIR domain!) I was given a tour and Jay really took time to find out about me, my life and goals. Just walking in there I felt comfortable. It's not packed. It's busy consistently, but there are always machines available too. I did not feel pressured like I did at Goodlife. I felt like they were selling me insurance, out comes the paperwork, get you on a machine..done. With King West, they let you know that your health and your personal goals are a priority. I like that it's privately owned. It definitely has that personal touch and they offer a great range of classes as well as a great new Jukari Fit to Fly class. These additions make it interesting. The juice bar is great and the loft space is inviting and professional. They have always gone out of their way to help me and take time to make sure I understand how the machines work and that I am working out properly..not to mention ALL the staff are FIT and practice what they preach. Yes, I am comparing to Goodlife only, because that has been my experince...however as someone who has back problems and has a busy life, this gym accommodates that. I went onto to doing some personal training sessions with Jay Arzadon and I have never felt fitter or more motivated. I made a great friend and he STILL e-mails me long after my sessions ended ans pushes me. That's kind of after care is hard to find, but you will get it at King West Fitness.

I moved back to Toronto a couple of years ago, and was looking to join a gym that had the boot camp type of classes that I loved. I shopped around the area, I live on Fleet street, and looked at a few different places. I checked out Kingwest's fitness classes and went in to see what the place was like. As soon as I walked in, I knew this was the place for me. The loft style is really cool. The variety of classes are the best around. All the staff and instructors are first class, they talk the talk, and walk the walk. The atmosphere is very friendly, and I have gotten to know a lot of great people there. I have been a member for well over a year now, and wouldn't change for anything. They have all the equipment you could want. I highly recomend Kingwest if you are looking for a friendly place, with great staff, and great classes.

Great Gym. I love being a member at King West Fitness. They have everything I need in a no ego atmosphere. All of the staff and trainers are very encouraging and supportive. They are a part of my inspiration and daily routine.

Especially now with a joint-gym agreement with Cambridge Clubs, this gym is a great value for your money.

Kevin and all the gang at Kingwest Fitness are great. Isabelle's constant smile and welcoming demeanor when I arrive early mornings is contagious! I've been a member since 2007. The best things that I like about the club is the location, availability of equipment and the decor. I feel comfortable at the gym and at the end of the day...this is what's important.

I am a current member at the gym. I love the location and equipment.

The downside to the gym is that the showers have been undergoing renovations for longer then I can remember. The shampoo, soap and conditioner are all watered down because they are on the floor of the shower. The towels are old and falling apart. They seem to have changed cleaning staff a few months back and now it is noticeably dustier and very dirty. They need to finish the renovations and take care of their facilities better or they are going to loose this member.

Great gym, no complaints here except!! BUY NEW TOWELS FOR GODS SAKE!! everytime the towel is being handed, all my clothes are ruined from the fine debries from the towels are starting to emit and falling off like dandruff from the towels. they had these nice new soap and shampoo from dove in the shower ( i guess they were testing it) but for some reasons they were removed and back to the diluted old soap water.

The new cleaning staff are great. But they are either dumb or just don't care if they kill someone. Example, the older cleaning lady was vacuuming very close to the guy who was benching over 200, so close that he couldn't put the weight back. he almost dropped it but saved. (she didnt even notice a guy who alomst dropped the bar on his neck) While mopping some member was running fast while they mopped the power plug came off from the treadmill, he almost fell. please instruct them not to kill someone while trying to clean the gym.

the guys who grunt and groan while lifting very light weight is so annoying and they drop it from a height that it shocks a lot of people while they are lifting. grunting while lifting heavy is tolerable but this is just annoying. if the management can at least put signs about grunting and yelling while lifting light it would be great.

another issue is, machine hogging. there is only one starimaster. the girl who comes in around 8 am seems to keep her water bottle, towel in the starimaster and goes in come back after 15 minutes and gets pissed if someone moved her towels. machine hogging is extremely selfish and cheap, and she seems to be close to the management and no one cares about it.

this gym is an amazing gym with no bs really. just if the management can get strict with gym etiquette to the members and minor problems like i mentioned above, i dont see any reason for someone to look for another gym.

Let's all be VERY clear here. This gym closed and ripped off trainers, staff and members. Do not believe the BS about condos, etc.. if that was the case they would have made an announcement and did things right. They got booted for poor management and not paying their bills.
