Fitness Clubs
Kingwest Fitness
Kingwest Fitness is a spacious fitness club in a beautifully restored factory in Liberty Village. Its soaring ceilings, post and beam finishes and massive factory windows offer some serious eye-candy (or at least design-candy) and there's so many square feet to roam around that even when it's busy it doesn't really seem that way.
One side of the club showcases a range of cardio options including ellipticals, treadmills, bikes and Stairmasters. Each come equiped with their own audio controls which make it easy to tune into one of the six TV stations and listen to whatever the Satellite TV programming is transmitting at the moment. On the other side of the club there's a good mix of free weights and machines; and in the middle an enclosed studio space is home to spinning, yoga and boxing classes.
Unlike some clubs there is zero attitude here. There is local art on the walls and a table of brochures and flyers highlighting neighbourhood events.
Rates and Initiation Fee
Membership fees range from $28 to $32.50 bi-weekly.
Towels, Lockers and Showers
Towel service is included in the membership. An overnight locker will run you $15 a month but there are plenty of full-size lockers available for day use. The showers are private and in good condition. There is also a steam room. Body lotion, shampoo, Q-tips, a hair dryer and razors are all provided.
Personal Training, Yoga and Spin
The gym has a number of buff and fit-looking personal trainers on their roster. Sessions are $70 each. Classes are dispersed throughout the week but rarely if ever take place in the mornings. Most are between 6 and 9pm although there are a few during lunch hour. Yoga (Hatha, Power and Ashtanga) is offered five times a week. There is also Jukari, pilates, Hip Hop Dance and Strip to Fit. All classes except boxing (taught by a Certified Level 1 boxing coach) are included in the membership.
Food and Juice
There is small juice bar where staff can whip you up a tasty protein or meal replacement shake. There are also some protein bars available. If all else fails, Oro Caffe is just downstairs.
Worth Mentioning
They also have a women's only section to the gym and offer tanning services.
Days and Hours of Operation
At the time of this post the gym is open Monday to Thursday, 6am - 11pm; Friday from 6am - 10pm and Saturday and Sundays from 9am - 6pm. It's always best to check the web site for the most up to date info.

This club is pitched as a high end gym, although it really doesn't have anything that makes it stand out or classify it as "high end"
6 out of 10 is my vote, the steam room is never on and takes forever to heat up.
I was a member last year and decided my condo gym had the same equipment and "I never waited in line for a machine" either.
The weak membership (this place is always empty) probably explains why you need to get that extra $1000-$2000 from each member to pay the bills but it makes it a major pain for your current membership...
Kevin Knott is the new owner. Stop in and let him know about your concerns. I'm SURE you won't recieve the same treatment.
When did Kevin take over?
DO NOT TRUST THIS GYM. ONLY PAY CASH. NEVER GIVE THEM YOUR BANKING INFO!
I hope this gym and other shady gyms get shut down.
Pay by cash should be an option, without handing over a cheque. I now go to a great gym where it's cash only, no entry fee, and you can put you membership on hold for as long as you like at no cost.
Most gyms are such rip-offs.
Think about what you write and how it can affect honest people.
Read what I posted after and relax.
In addition to my post above I should mention it was two years ago, if it's new owners now I hope they are not shady like the last one(s)."
PS the post already said it was new owners and you still wrote it.
Cheers.
Here's a quick link to a few clips of what we saw:

Thanks.
I agree, it's pretty obvious you work there...and as far as the new administration, i'm not even sure it's true.....
To everyone - they are better/cheaper options for gyms in this neighborhood, e.g. GoodLife...this place is not worth you trust
If you came out and say: "listen i work there, and i'm telling you, we don't rip off people like the former owners did before", it would be a good start to regain people's confidence...
ive been in canada for over 5 years now, and never felt so discriminated in my life. wutever, i bet if the actual owner knew bout this, understands my frustration, he'd do something. i got no prob affording the gym, i dont give a fck about money, they got the irons, i want the pumps. but u know wut i mean. im sharing the gym with 60 guys that are paying 9 dollars a month n theyre lucky why? cuz they werent aware of the existence of this gym until 2 days later i joined. ill have to cancel it in a when i go on a vacation. and this will be the only reason ill be cancelling my membership.
Let's face it, there are a lot of gyms out there with varying reputations based on individuals past experiences. While some are true it doesn't reflect the entire story. These guys are a private club trying to make it in the big box club world and are doing a great job. Give them a chance already!

I also purchased 24 personal training sessions and it's been great thus far! King West Fitness has the best staff, very friendly and the gym is never packed to a point where I have to wait for a machine!!
Thanks King West
Anyways, I finally had a chance for a tour of King West Fitness and I loved the space. The staff was just so friendly. After my tour I immediately signed up for a 1 year term but they also have a no contract option. However, the kind gentlemen who toured me told me to pick the 1 year term because it's cheaper and you can put your membership on hold twice for a $10 fee! Up to 6 months! As an Actress/Model I can sometimes work out of the country, so that membership did make most sense for me.
The classes are great! The manager at the club convinced me to try their new class Jukari and I loved it! The gym is never overly busy where I would have to wait for machines and their equipment also really good. They have a juice bar that's sell the most delicious shakes, a very unique space at the gym, great classes, cute staff lol and great customer service.
My only complaint is that they need to install TV's for the cardio section.
I don't who Jack is but the club's rates are actually lower than 99 sudbury and goodlife. However, I've heard Goodlife can be more flexible with the rates but Goodlife don't even have enough equipment to accomodate their members. It's funny bc many of the girls I've made friends with at King West were previous Goodlife members! LOL They also told me that Goodlife was horrible.
Anyways I love the gym and I did my shopping in the area. King West Fitness made the most sense, they offered me the best price but what really sold me was their customer service. I don't feel like a number at that gym.

Also, I saw that unlucky mentioned that they have some special offers, and was wondering if the 9 dollars per month is an actual offer or was it just to illustrate a point...
Is 28-32 dollars biweekly a reasonable price around this area or are there cheaper better gyms? I moved here from the US where i was in a 24/7 gym filled with all kind of equipment and was paying about 25 dollars per month. Any feedback will be appreciated.
good luck finding any gym for 25 a month. this is canada, everything is expensive. if u dont care about the environment try a community gym like trinity bellwood parks. itll stil b expensive 40 a mnth at least. heard univ of toronto has a good cheaper gym, dont know about its price. ymca is 60 dollars around month. forget about good life chains.
Jay didn't pressure me with any kind of sales tactics just told me to try out the gym for 3 workouts and said 'I'm sure you'll sign up after." Tried it out and this gym is great for me, never overly busy at all, get my workout done with no distractions.
Love the comments. I wonder if any of the anti-gym people have ever opened a successful business and truly wonder how they would respond if it was their business..... Easy to type bs but suprisingly difficult to bring any credibility to comments made. The electronic age has made email heroes out of everywho...same people who cower when asked to back it up. You should focus your energy on Goodlife and extreme who scam people for millions every year.... Or is Kwf just an easy target?? Enjoy, every comment rank them higher and gets more attention. !!! Let's see how many responses this gets. Hahahahah
Overall, I've been at many commercial gyms and what differentiates this gym from the others is their customer service...
HAHAHA
Great customer service, the manager of club is always walking around and socializing with the members and getting feedback. They do need to make a few improvements though such as adding TV's, shower stalls could look a litte better but not a big deal and some new equipment.
Workout space is ok but showers are gross!!
Is this place still in business? Its dead all the time and there are no classes.... how do they even do it with Goodlife across the street with 100's of classes, free parking and are cheaper?? My choice was easy.
I just visited the club over the weekend and I don't know why this website exists and is pointed to on their main site... All of the poeple on here are owners or friends and the other half the comments are anti-kingwest... why would they HIGHLIGHT this on their website???? Good marketing move folks....
My opinion, nothing great about the club, not very clean, dustballs everywhere and mens showers are horrible and half-broken. Same price to go to a club across the street where you know they have standards. Worked out and was the pretty much the only person there, they may sell you on how great that is but its actually pretty depressing.. I like seeing people working out and providing some motivation to me. If you are completely anti-social then this is the place for you.
2 out of 5 for me.
I moved into the area 2 months ago and did my research on fitness clubs in the area. Every gym in the area, 99 Sudburry, Goodlife Fitness, YMCA and Kingwest Fitness had reviews. YMCA and 99 Sudburry had for the most part negative reviews and I tried out those gyms and they were alright. 99 Sudbury had horrible customer service!
Tried out Goodlife and it was nice facility but way TOO BUSY! I could never get a workout done but my wife did enjoy the classes. We went to Kingwest Fitness and their customer service was excellent but their equipment and change rooms needed some improvements. However, they are currently in renovations right now to improve their equipment and change rooms. We did a trial membership and now've signed up for a membership.
If you're looking for a fancy health club Kingwest Fitness is not your spot but if you're looking for a well cleaned and great customer service then this is the spot for you. We only chose Kingwest Fitness bc of their customer service and the fact that we plan to stay in the area for a couple years.
Can anyone tell me if they have actually updated their changerooms? They told me it would be done by now when I was in their last but I haven't heard anything either way. It's been on their "list" for about a year and it's really getting to me. I would come back over to KWF from Goodlife if they improve their changerooms, buy NEW equipment instead of the 10 year old stuff in there and add CLASSES to the schedule. There are only about 7 classes a week compared to my Goodlife's 40+.. For a female KWF is not a good place. Good for the meat heads that like to throw around big weights and grunt and groan... Goodlife seems to avoid those guys.. thankfully.
DO NOT RECOMMEND in any way.
Anyways, the gym ain't perfect but they have great customer service as I'm always greeted at the front desk by my name and great classes. They do need to update a few things but it's come a long way since the new management.

It is a perfect site to set fitness goals and meet them through:
-Planning games with your friends and other people in your area (and sync them with your everyday calendar)
-Discover and create groups that match your interest and skills
-Setting goals and have your network challenge you to improve
When you can workout with other people or have challenges in your calendar, you are more likely to stick to them and succeed!
Please check it out! The more people on there the better for finding people in your area with similar interests...and staying motivated!!
Lets all get fit and healthy together!

Wow that couldn't have summarized it better.. stuff I've been thinking all along. I too did the dollar a day membership with mixed feelings about the whole thing. Yes it was cheap but I basically got what I paid for. This place has been "under construction" for the entire length of my membership now.. I just quit and went to Goodlife which although busier does have much nicer "eye candy" and much better equipment, classes, etc.. You know what to expect there day to day.
What they are doing at KWF I don't know, but I'm sure it simply points to LACK OF MONEY or just being really cheap. And the only thing I would add is the owners or whoever those guys are that hang out in that back office are pretentious pricks who believe they are gods of some sort.. IF you have that much money and are that arrogant why would you have a gym that is so run down. Whatever the case I'm glad I left as I know I won't be out of a gym when they shut down soon. I'm not comfortable giving my CC info to a gym that appears to be on the verge of going under.
Not recommended at all unless someone pumps A LOT OF MONEY into the place, which I just don't see happening.
We fully understand and agree with your point about the construction taking so long and the resulting inconvenience. We initially did a deal with a resource to handle the renovation however after commencing work, they disappeared and left us hanging and embarrassed. We have since hired another company who is on the final stretch of completing the work. Estimated completion date is May 1st.
We also agree with your point about staff congregating at the front checking text messages and facebook. This is unacceptable and provides a very poor image of our club. We thank you for bringing this to our attention. In terms of staff turnover, we have only had two employees leave the club over the past twelve months on mutual terms, one being the cleaning staff that you mentioned. Our staff is one of our greatest assets and we are very proud to have such a loyal, friendly and knowledgeable team.
In regards to A/C in the summer or heat – please report any discomfort to our staff who will immediately address the issue. Our building is heritage and difficult to heat/cool with consistency.
In response to your comment about KingWest Fitness vs. Goodlife – we are not Goodlife nor do we strive to be anything like the big “chains”. We have a unique and beautiful environment and a very loyal membership base who we strive to serve with evolving services and an excellent fitness experience.
To help us compete with the “chains”, we recently did a reciprocal deal with Cambridge Group of Clubs which will allow our members to use Toronto Athletic Club, Adelaide Club and Montreal Athletic club on a limited monthly basis!
Ncboi, we hope to improve your perception of the club during the remainder of 2012. If you have any questions or further feedback, feel free to drop in to see myself (Brian), Kevin or Jay at anytime.
Look for our new website launching in May 2012 for more of what’s to come!
Especially now with a joint-gym agreement with Cambridge Clubs, this gym is a great value for your money.
